They won't have much work to do if they simply declare all semi-autos to be banned, which the left wing were calling for last election and a few times in between.
And the process that would entail that ban would be to provide evidence and proof such as a visual collective information of semi autos and their availability. Hence the whole thing about buying time by making information difficult to collect and process.

*sigh* my point flew right over your head. By process I meant the step that one would have to take to get that ban. We live in a rather bureaucratic society and they need some form of substance for that ban. In other words, I'm talking about before that ban if it ever were to come to fruition. Buy as much time as possible by keeping antis in the dark. And when the ban comes, it can be challenged and hopefully wouldn't be a case based on appearances. Still don't understand where I'm going with this? Just show your original post to an anti or someone not to comfortable with guns. The ensuing argument will be mind numbing to say the least.

They have enough substance already to call for bans before and during elections. The Conservatives are not going to ban anything, and you can bet any money that if any other party gets in you will see semi-autos banned. For most people that vote left, they vote for other reasons than gun banning. Guns just don't matter to them.
That would be an embarrassing move.
I'm betting that as bad as compliance was for non-restricted registration, that confiscation attempts on the sheer volume of semi-autos will constitute political suicide.
You might think the amount of non-compliance cases is different, but if it really WAS different, we wouldn't have the ongoing saga of amnesties. They'd simply arrest and trample the one or two remaining hold outs and move on with politics.
