NON Restricted Colt Ar in .22lr

I played with it at SHOT. It's a .22lr blowback with a somewhat flimsy AR shell built around it. All of the parts are proprietary, including the magazines which are not interchangeable with the Black Dog ones. That being said, if this lump manages to get in as not being a variant, it will be a strong argument for having the GSG5 looked at again.

Would you buy one?

The Armi-Jager AP74 has no inter-changeable parts with a real AR and is still considered restricted because it looks like an AR.

Why would this be any different?

Nope.

I've sunk some money into .22lr kits for my AR's that have serviceable parts and a good supply of magazines. I was not really all that impressed by the Umarex rifle that I examined. If I was all horny about having a .22lr non-restricted I'd put together one of those Nordic kits on a 10/22.

I would consider getting a GSG5 if they became available up here. I've returned a fair bit of lead to the earth with one that a friend of mine has down south and they great little bullet hoses.

Did some digging around for you black rifle guy's and found this;

Logic and reason are anathema to the stuffed shirts staffing the Canadian Firearms Registry. An original thought and a cold drink of water would literally kill 99% of their staff. If they ruled that a GSG-5 was an HK MP-5 variant, this rifle has zero chance of being allowed entry into Canada as a non-restricted. Most of these idiots have minimal firearms backgrounds, being mostly retired RCMP officers riding the gravy train of double dipping, and those that can tell their arse from a hole in the ground, are forced to toe the official Liberal Party appointee line and prohibit/restrict on the basis of cosmetics and external appearance. Remember the original decision to restrict the Squires Bingham "M-16" .22LR?

How do you know they will not examine the internals? Just because they did that with one gun doesn't mean they do that with all.

I'm calling BS on this one, unless they can show different that is a variant, the frigging thing is even called an M4.

But if its an M4, it would be prohibited, because M4s are fully automatic. Since this is semi-automatic, we know its not an M4, therefore the name means nothing and it should be an objective analysis by the RCMP.

My opinion is based on their track record. There are multiple cases of firearms being restricted/prohibted solely on external cosmetics and despite the fact that the internal operation is completely different! Dlask Arms, for instance, built a working prototype pump-action AR style rifle. Because it used some AR-15 parts and could accept AR mags it was deemed an AR variant and restricted, even though it was a manually operated slide action.

But then we have cases like the VZ 58, that look like an AK-47 but since no parts were interchangable, it wasn't.

As long as no parts are interchangable, which it appears is the case, it should not be classified as a variant.

No thanks, I'm still waiting for a decent black rifle chambered in something > .223.... So many new .22s and .223s being imported, where are all the real guns at?

VZ58'S NOW PROHIBITED...........You better check out the "red rifles" section, John (Marstar owner) might be having classification problems with the latest shipment of VZ58's. Not sure whats going on, check the thread for details from him.
