For $1000 I suggest you keep saving.
Don't forget to budget for optics which should be at least $400 for something decent and then you need to feed the rifle and decent 223 is going to run you $250+ tax for 1000 rounds.
If you go cheap on your optics you'll just be disappointed and end up upgrading later anyway which will cost more in the long run. Even the $250/1000 ammo isn't going to get you stellar accuracy but at least you'll be shooting and these rifles are hungry.

Cr5,
What decent .223 are you getting for $250/1000? Norc? Tula?
I'm paying around $0.50/rd in BC for AE, Rem, Win std. 55gr. ball.

Sorry, brain fart. Yes $0.50 per round for AE and PMC level stuff. Most here know I'll never touch Norc 5.56, makes for an exciting campfire is about all I would ever use it for :nest: :stirthepot2:

Sorry for the confusion, I wish I could still find 223 that cheap.

Funny, that reminds me that I found a receipt for a bunch of 223 I bought when I got my first HK SL8-4 back when they were first available in Canada and it almost made me sick how much the price of ammo has gone up over the years.
