Norc's and the 1 in 5 flyer ..NEW TEST RESULTS ANOTHER UPDATE.

Yea it would be nice to see more test results and work around's from Lost. Thomas you no doubt have summed up the action itself and the many variables that can induce rounds outside the mean average and it's limitations. I'm thinking the generous NATO chamber versus a match type chamber allowing the rounds to sit canted however she feeds them is one draw back in absolute accuracy and it would appear logical at a glance, that the changing upward pressure on the bolt would progressivly lower the canting in the vertical plane all others things equal. Just a thought anyways.

But one thing I always say about these rifles is this, look at most of Lost..again's groups, or other groups if fired with the same rifle with NATO ball, albeit larger groups,..... that little vertical stringing is not necessarily a totally debilitating thing when you consider what the rifle was built for, ownership of your perimeter out to 500meters+.

A little up or a little down still plants them in the hurt zone, just check out a 11/59 target fired with Lost's Rifle at 400 meters.

Now if these groups were inherently strung in the windage direction at say 3 or 4MOA, and throw in a little sight error, zero error, and a little wind and now we have an ineffective rifle at 400-500 meters and the vertical strung tight windage will hurt everytime. Remember that this is a Battle Rifle and the original owners(US Army&Marine Corp) knew what they needed it to do and that's not putting 2 rounds in the x-ring on all five bulls with an Anshutz .22.

As Thomas rightly says, this is never going to be a tack driver, wrong gun for that job, and an exercise in how to dispose of cash if your not careful.

My aim ( excuse the pun ) was to try and eliminate possible causes of the flyer one at a time until I was 100% certain it is not operator error. and its proving to be an interesting exercise.
I am more than happy with the performance of my gun, hovering around 1.5 and constantly under 2 moa, ( you don't want to know how many loads I worked thru to find THE load that gives me the consistency ....it was a LOT, and Im still looking.)
The flyer truly is a part of the platform, and if the flyer stays within a 2 inch group and the other four are touching, there is no reason for investing a crap load of cash in barrels and trigger groups etc. A good clean kill is a good clean kill.
I know there is a point at which there is nothing more to be gained by tinkering, and believe I reached that point. Any further improvements will only come through further load development to keep up with the constantly changing specs of barrel and receiver.

This winter has been a right b$%^ard and as I look out the window its still snowing !!
I got a little sidetracked with the 1.5 Challenge and have been putting 100's off 22lr downrange working on my technique.
The last time I was at the range it was snowshoeing down to the hundred and the 200 was buried.
I will be chasing the flyer again, it gives me an reason rather than an excuse, to go shooting LOL

Thanks for the interest guys, and a safe season to you all.
Derek.

I hear ya on the winter thing lost. We still have some snow in the shade here too. Blizzard in the mornin the other day to a few inches and gone by day after LOL
With my recently severed and now healing trigger finger tendons, I'm delegated to the trigger on my 22 as well. Still can't manage a 5lbs trigger with much control so... You think you got problems with fliers, let me tell ya LOL :D I ain't showing anyone my targets these days
I'm hoping by june I'll be back on my m14 triggers to play in the "range" we built last summer out back on crown. I'm just finishin up a krieger barrelled 18.5" norky/GI/SEI built and will need to be seein if it will meet the 1.5moa thread challenge :D

The whole finger thing sucks eh. Whod ever of thought 5lbs could be so much LOL.
The 22 sounds like excellent physio tho, betcha aint getting that off the medicare :)

Looking forward to some decent weather, and seeing your new build stretch its legs, sounds sweet.
I said above that I think Ive gone as far as I can with the old Norc and am looking for a new platform to tweak and squeeze.
Leaning towards an Enfield or something German from the same era.
The Norc was , and is great. It was a 4 inch shooter when I got it and now shes occasionally tossing out 1 inchers. Good fun getting there.

Best wishes for the finger mate, I don't feel your pain, but I KNOW the frustration LOL ( My med recs look like a pile of phone books ).

Its STILL F&*&ING SNOWING !!!!!!!!!!!!
