Is it normal for the top and bottom portion to have a space of 2-3 millimeters not touching? It's either that or I've got a really bad/tight fit.

Let me know. :)

Hey Cam! Yeah, the barrel installation went smoothly... no problem there. Now all I need are the screws to hold the grip and handguard. I'm just concerned about the space between the top and bottom parts. :)

Is this where you are talking about? If so then no their should not be a space.

I have a feeling this will involve shaving off some of the plastic. Quick question: are the top screws supposed to stay on or should I take them off when the Nordic screws arrive in the mail?

I'm not really sure if this will affect the gap or not, but there is a plastic set screw that goes in the hole underneath the buffer tube of the stock. Is it possible that you have screwed this in too far, pushing the 10/22 receiver up a little bit causing that gap?

FWIW, I wanted my 10/22 receiver to fit tightly into the Nordic stock, so I have my set screw fairly tight also...I have a slight gap, but it hasn't affected anything that I've noticed. My setup shoots well and it's very accurate.

Congrats on taking the plunge for a Nordic BTW...

Thanks :)

I don't have the Nordic screws yet. The box I got from Hawk didn't contain them, so they sent me a kit which I should receive this week.

Would shaving off some of the plastic cause problems or can I go ahead and do it?

I'm with allstone.

The reciever seems to be riding high.

Look at the position of the bolt handle, its high in the cutaway, should be more centered.

I'll see what I can do about forcing it further down, but I'm telling you... it's a really tight fit, and I'm no weakling. :)

What about the screws on top of the receiver? I noticed there are screw holes on top of the Nordic kit going straight down, so I'm assuming the screws on the receiver need to be removed prior to placing the screws inside the top portion of the kit?

I had to shave my plastic set screws right down to get a good fit, and I still have a little space like you.
Yes the screws in the top of the ruger need to come out, the nordic kit attaches to it with those holes.

Glad to see the build coming together for you! you're going to have a blast

I just realized something: that's the absolute lowest the action and barrel can go, because the barrel and connecting pieces are flush against the lower Nordic portion, which means I either accept the 2-3 millimeter gap or start shaving off the top sides of the receiver.

I took it to the range and (safely) tried one magazine for function testing and it worked perfectly! I can already tell this is going to be mad fun...

When it's properly set and ready to go, I'll take a few pics and a video for people to salivate and want one. :D
