Norinco 1911 from Canada Ammo deal... pics for anyone wondering

Wow... looks great with wood grips. Im more of a black on black guy but the wood really "classes" it up.

Fired 50 rounds tonight. All cheap norinco I got with the gun. Not a single issue and its actually quite accurate. I would have paid alot more for this gun and im glad I didnt pay more for anything else.

I can't believe they haven't sold out yet....

X2 caved as well. Special Thanks to the OP and those that took the time to post pics, it's what sold me! Now I have to figure out how to explain to the wife that I NEEDED another 1911!?

"But darling, this one is Chinese. I don't have a Chinese one, and this is Chinese in a good way!"...;)

Quick question, we know that the panel bushing to frame thread pitch is different (metric) than a North American 1911, what about the dove tail cuts for the sights? Can "drop in" North American sights be installed without having to file fit?

So the screws for the grips are different but any normal sized 1911 grips can be used?

If someone wanted to get additional magazines can you use any 1911 magazines? Anything that isn't interchangeable with normal 1911's?

For the disassembly for soaking did you just field strip? Or did you completely disassemble? I have one coming and just looking for some more tips on the cleanup.

Good work for doing the write up and pictures. I have a question. Did you take the gun apart and really give it a solid cleaning with like brake cleaner or something? Because either you didn't do a good job cleaning it, or I'm not impressed with the finish.

I bought a Norc GI from another vendor a few years ago and I'm pretty happy with it. No matter how much I cleaned it and used Hoppes Gun Oil on it it always had a dirty, gritty feeling to the metal. So I degreased it really well and used Birchwood Casey Barricade on the slide. The slide now always feels smooth and clean while the frame still has a slightly gritty feel to it. I didn't do anything other than the slide because I'd never used Barricade on a gun before and I've never done a complete 1911 tear down before. One day I'll barricade the little pieces and the frame. Whenever you get fingerprints on the Barricaded slide, you can literally just buff it with a soft cloth and it's good to go. I recommend it as it really made my Norc feel better finished.

Enjoy that 1000 rounds. Are the cases reloadable?

The grip screws are the same threads as any north american grip screw, but the bushing to frame threads are different. The grips I put on mine fit just fine with the stock grip screws so no bushing change was needed. You CAN re-thread the frame for north american bushings with a kit apparently. But I didnt need to with the grips I used.

I picked up 3 of the Dlask 8 rounds mags with the plastic pad on the bottom. They were $25 each and fit perfect with the extended mag well in my grip. They fit perfect and lock the slide back tight. Not sure about how they feed, havent been out with them yet but they have great reviews so im not worried about that.

The 1000 rounds of ammo is large pistol primed, brass case and is reloadable.

When I cleaned my gun, I did a basic strip down (didnt take the frame/trigger/safety components out). Soaked it in a simple green/water mixture, then sprayed everything down with brake clean. Then I lubed it all with gun scrubber and it looks and feels excellent. Definitely not nearly as smooth as a high end 1911... I have a buddy with a $1500 1911... his is definitely nicer. But when you consider that I could have bought 3000 rounds and 3 1911's for the same money... and when we shoot we shoot nearly identical accuracy wise, im not sure his fancy 1911 is anything more than bragging rights. Im sure most 1911 die hards will think that last comment is akin to treason. But if you want a gun to shoot, this ones fine. If you want one to stare at and fondle, get a fancy one.
