how come canpar doesn't give an ETA when using there tracking system??? i'd like to know what day they're coming because I work 12hr nights the next couple of days and would like to get up a little earlier the day they deliver....

^Canpar tracking listed my ETA as today, by end of day (picked up from CanAm yest.) Granted Burnaby is being across the bridge from North Van.

Pistol arrived early this morning. CanPar guy said ammo box is likely in back of truck, expect delivery late afternoon.

Quick look, grips look intact, slide is bit wobbly, will stay in sealed bag living life of safe queen.

when I use the tracking system it says "Departing hub/terminal via linehaul" june 28th at 18:27 and no ETA........ I didn't want to lay down and try to nap today in case they showed and have to work 12hr nights tonight and tomorrow night and the carpar site says they'll try only two attempts at delivery at a residential address....... I hope they come later in the day when they do show.....

My Tracking:
2013-07-03 09:38:59 Delivered Vancouver
2013-07-02 18:32:57 Arrival at Hub/Terminal from Bulk/City Trailer Vancouver
2013-07-02 15:32:21 Pickup from customer/shipper Vancouver

Second gun is as good as the first. It needed more cleaning though to get that bearing grease off before it would slide and eject nicely.

The dlask mags don't seem to work in either of my 1911's though when they are loaded with 8 rounds. They jam on the first two by catching on the mag casing. If you put 6 rounds in them they load fine. Any thoughts on how to address that?

Mine arrived today. A day before the ETA.
Pulling it apart and getting ready to swab.

With the new grips.
(delivered to the neigbours 5 minutes after I left for work. if only they knew)

My second arrived today. I'll hopefully clean it up tomorrow. Compared to the first pistol, initial inspection shows a broken grip, a lighter trigger (still almost 6 lb), the mag release is a lot smoother than #1 and both mags hold the slide back and pop right out like they are supposed to like #1 did. However, the finish on the sides of the slide on this one looks more matte than gloss. Hopefully a complete wash-off will show better gloss but a light scrape with a fingernail did not suggest it was just crusted cosmoline. We'll see.

Now, back on post #2859 I said "My girl bit me" when I sliced my finger on a sharp edge of the frame on pistol #1. I got to thinking after that, that a .45 just can't be called a girl, a 9mm maybe, but a .45 is just too much for that, so they will be my "boys", not to be confused with my "other boys" since these new ones are still dangerous.

Good stuff, Canthitathing! Sounds like your experience is very similar to mine: one really good and one pretty

good but in need of attention. A darn good reason two purchase TWO!! That evens the odds a little!

Congrats!

well had it out the range, shoots great. some stoppages at 1st, but I was shooting SWC's. mag is 10 round power mag

Shooting with a cracked grip didnt make it any easier, but I managed decent grouping at 10 yards

2nd group was best (bottom right)

You can have the ones that came on mine for free, just pay for envelope shipping.

I managed to get the Wilson drop in beavertail/grip safety installed using a skeletonized hammer a friend had laying around. These 2 parts were BOTH total drop in's... no fitting or modification necessary. Not sure what brand the hammer is, but it looks cool. Also swapped the extended mag release from my SR-1911, put on a set of Hogue wrap around grips and the trigger from dlask. I do intend to order another extended slide release for this gun. But thats it. It works flawlessly and looks like a gun you wouldnt be afraid to knock around.

In use at the last match at my range:

i just received my 1911 today and for some reason i cant drop the slide which i know you're not suppose to do on an empty chamber. But when i do try, the slide stop goes down about halfway (1 millimetre) and it gets stuck into a second groove that is preventing it from dropping and the slide going back to normal position. I have to hold the slide manually so theres no pressure and release the slide lock in order for it to go back.

Is this normal? btw this is my first firearm so any comments would be appreciated

I'm happy, except for the cracked right grip gun is in better shape than I was expecting. Might have to order another one now...

Yeah Karl, thanks. I'm really happy with the finish on the first one received but the second one has a slide finish that isn't as good, but for the money what can you do, lol. I washed the second one up tonight and confirmed my suspicion about the finish. Tomorrow or Saturday I'll do a side by side comparison but I'm thinking of swapping the grip safety from the second to the first as there is an edge on the tang of the first one that will require some stone lapping (I'm sure it would scuff the web of the strong hand after a few mags of shooting. It looks like the second one received will end up as a "project gun" at least as far as the finish goes. Now to research the various refinishing kits/services available (Norrell finish, Cobra coat, Cera coat, Dura coat, Arma coat, the mind boggles). I'll likely look for a DIY solution since I don't want to sink a lot of money. However, getting a couple of hundred rounds through each one is top of the list before anything else.

I picked up some lapping compound today. I'll work on the slide action on both pistols before any range action to smooth things out a bit.

nothing wrong, it is just very stiff out of the box. are you doing this with a mag inserted? that would make it even harder
