generally my method is to run my fingers along every edge, paying closer attentions to edges that move against something, then slowly polish those moving edges smooth, we are talking about taking off .001 mm of material at most.

I need to buy a camera... so much awesomesauce needs to be filmed.

Does just cycling the action (whether shooting or racking by hand) eventually smooth things out?

the metal surfaces that rub together will smoothen out if there are any imperfections

I found that a total strip and cleaning of every part made it night and day as well, everything moved much smoother after.

I will have to do a quick trigger job as well (ie polish trigger/hammer/sear surfaces)
I thought so too... my oldie Nork 1911 feels pretty good (not as smooth as my SAM, but not as rough as this new Nork), and I'm trying to remember if it felt as gritty as this newbie...

Same here. Ontario?

well, took mine out to the range, 150 rounds went fine, had one slight hiccup where my take down lever caught the slide, but quite minor an possibly due to me just not snugging it back together properly on re assembly.

Im finding that I am very glad I got the m&P .45 instead of a 1911, much quicker mag changes, more accurate, lighter, but with the same felt recoil due to the lower profile barrel. But my M&P has over a grand into it, so thats to be expected.

that being said, very glad I got a 179$ 1911 that functions well, shoots as good as any other 1911, looks great with my pearl grips, again, so sorry for lack of pics... but I dont have a digi camera :p

I just threw mine in the ultrasonic with near boiling hot water and Lyman's gun cleaning solution for about 20 minutes, CLP'd the living heck out of it, and racked it a few hundred times.

Still a bit gritty.
