Norinco 1911 owners, what are your opinons of it?

I had crap luck with a Norc 1911A1C. Out of the box from a local retailer, the leaf spring was not functioning as if it was squashed.. This lead to the grip safety not functioning at all and the trigger able to be pulled with no grip of the gun. I replaced it with a new spring from Nighthawk. Problem solved. The adjustable sight was crap and would not hold position at first. I had to use a bunch of loctite to get it to hold steady and not rock loose with recoil. Still want to replace the sight with a fixed unit eventually.

I'm still keeping the gun. I've been changing parts here and there when I find them and working towards making it a decently reliable and decently accurate gun. The one thing I will say is that it has always gone bang without issue. Tons of Norc .45ACP and Blazer Brass through it so far without any hiccups.

When I took the pic, the scales/grips weren't on correctly. They've been sorted since the pics.

Norc 1911's...

I had a few different Norc 1911's, full size & compact models now.

Still have 3 of them.

Never had a lemon yet.

On all mine, I usually ditch the following: trigger, grips, extended slide stops. I prefer an adjustable aluminum trigger, double diamond hardwood or Pachmayr wraparound grips & standard slide stops. Otherwise I run 'em pretty much stock.

For the $$, personally, I like 'em.

ive been running the 2 tone one x 2 for 5 years.
picked them to try out the whole 1911 thing.
really like them, while they are not my fav gun i really like shooting them.

i recently upgraded to a Ruger SR1911 and a Kimber Custom II and i can see why they are double the price.

but for the money you cant go wrong with the Norc.
i would buy another hands down any day of the week.
solid gun.
they are also nice because you dont care if you scratch them.
where as if you have a $1500 Kimber your probably gonna tear up some if you scratch the finish, haha

I agree with everyone else. The CanAmmo combo deal $500 for a Norc 1911 Police model and 1000 .45ACP rounds is just too good to resist. You are getting the pistol for $170, if you don't like it sell it.

Thanks for the input everyone.
I think I'll pick one up.

What would be a reasonable solution to the problem?
Instead of simply ignoring me, every e-mail I've sent them requesting for a status update on my M93 pistol has been answered (with they dont have any updates from Norinco's Canadaian service center).

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Norinco doesn't have a Canadian service centre, or any factory warranty for that matter . Any warranty offered on a Norinco product comes from the dealer selling it. You may want to have another conversation with your dealer...

I have owned 5 norc 1911's, i look at them as a "Gun Kit" all the parts are included, lol. Fire a box thru it, you may have to help it along at first, Strip it down, tweet the springs as required, De horn EVERYTHING then because you have fired it, note the Shiny spots, polish them with crocus cloth, re finish as you wish, I liked to give mine a little finer finish wet sand with super fine sc paper. Totally de grease, oven bluing to th tone you like, self clean gives a nice deep grey gunmetal colour that is the most durable.
I have sold three to finance buying Colts, yes there is a diff. But by polishing, adding buffers, spring kits etc. It gets less and less,
Let's face it, it is a great platform to "Play" gunsmith. If you f it up your only out $300 :)

Perfect synopsis, IMO.

I bought 2 New "Armco" tuned, Norinco .45's awhile back & I like it better than my Colt as a shooter.
Haven't fired the other yet, but I have no doubt it will work like the other....

Nothing but good to say about the Norinco,....& let me say the Chinese food ain't bad either!:D

I owned a two tone 45 and now and NP29. Neither one a show piece but they are very good shooters. I have not had any problems with either and I'm convinced they shoot better than I do. Once and only once, I managed to put 8 shots in one hole with my 45 at ten yards with 200 grain LSWC. On my NP29, I changed the safety to a wilson combat high thumb hold type, gave it new grips and a magwell and smoothed out the trigger and voila. Great gun. Great price. Lots of fun.

I've owned one, sold it. They're cheap and they generally work well; provided mags are #### and are generally the cause of malfunctions.

Don't let the reviewers fool you; you pay 300$ for a 300$ pistol, end of the line. They're good starter pistols but if you enjoy the better things in life, you'll want to spend more; Life's too short :)

I am certainly NOT trying to fool anyone.
Not everyone is a liar just because you don't like cheap pistols.
My factory 45 mag functioned perfect with ball ammo by the way.
Life is too short which is why I save my money for other gun activities. Expensive pistols are very nice. But that's all. Expensive and nice.

Mine's not so accurate but I don't get to shoot it much. Even off a rest at 10 yards I can't get it to group well :( The trigger is a sweetheart though, bought mine tuned from Armco back in the day and it's nice and tight and functions flawlessly. I just can't shoot it for sh!t.

if you get a chance try the wolf ammo reloads I shoot the swc and they group well with that gun, would be curious to know if they group well for others, I had a 10 shot string about 2 weeks ago at 10 yards, all holes overlapped or touched but one and the one was close.

They work. The finish is usually not great. Edges and corners are angular (not exactly sharp, just not too comfortable) and not nicely rounded off. Triggers are often heavy and not very smooth. For the price they are a good starting point and a good way to learn some "smithing" skills. Like everything else in life, you get what you pay for so decide what you want/need and buy it.
