With all the searching and shopping I've done, it seems I may have cheap out and get a Norinco. Does anyone know much about this brand? This will be my first handgun and I would hate to buy an absolute piece of crap especially for comp shooting.

If it's to compete, I would go CZ.

SP01 for production and Tactical Sport for Standard.

Not that Norinco's are bad.... It's hard to be competetive with a single stack 45.

Just my opinion

If you're looking for a single stack 1911, either as a GI replica, or as a foundation for a tweaked shooter, the Norcs are hard to beat. If you want to be a competitive shooter there are better choices, unless you're shooting IDPA ESP. As the foundation for a full custom pistol, there are pros and cons - the pro is you'll end up with a pistol that has as tough a frame and slide as is available, the con is that it'll always be a Norc, so it may not have the value for resale that the exact same build on a different slide/frame would have.

If your doing a custom build you will never get the money you want back for the gun anyways. The only con with the Norinco is that they are so cheap you will find it hard to not buy another. I sold mine awhile ago and am waiting for some new shipments to come in. LOL

Speaking of both (custom and Norinco) Roger at Dark has Norc 1911's listed, do you know if he has stock? He does amazing work.

Ive seen a couple pricey STI's fall apart with hardly any use. Cracked Frame on one of the high end race guns with the polymer frames. It was the guys back up gun that he claims had less than 1000 rounds through it. Needless to say he was pissed. Point being any gun will have its issues. The Trojans and Rangers are nice guns though. There is a thread that was just revived on Kimber quality or lack thereof. For over 1000 bucks I just have a hard time shelling out that kind of money with the #### I keep hearing. I have owned a Norc Police model that was flawless with everythiing I fed it. It is hard to beat a Norc for a basic range gun. If its just for fun you will not regret it. Problem is you will catch the 1911 bug and want something nicer. I am reallly liking the Dan Wesson Commander Classic Bobtail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well you can get a NP-28 from Marstar and do an Armco treadment, so that you have a 9mm 1911 with 10 rounds mag. or go for CZ for comp.

Comp shooting depends on what your personal goals and expectations are ?

A Norinco in capable hands will outperform the costliest pistols out there in not so capable hands........the Man makes the pistol look good, never the otherway around;)

If you do go Norc do try and get a "Newer" one........the quality in the fit and finish is alot better then the earlier ones, at least from the ones I've seen and owned.
Plenty of models to choose from too, when you can get them...standard GI types to the New Police or currently "Sport" 1911's with ambi safties, dovetailed sights etc......

Like others have said the forged frames are great(1911's anyways) You can add aftermarket parts as you go to keep the initial investment down, or go nuts and spend as much as you care too right off the bat.

If you pick up a tuned one through Armco then it'll run decent right from the getgo;)

And you're not "cheaping out" by choosing a Norc......you're being a savvy shopper and putting the extra money where it matters, ammo and range time:)

The Norc 1911's are the BEST value in a new Pistol, no question about it.
