With all the searching and shopping I've done, it seems I may have cheap out and get a Norinco. Does anyone know much about this brand? This will be my first handgun and I would hate to buy an absolute piece of crap especially for comp shooting.
If you're looking for a single stack 1911, either as a GI replica, or as a foundation for a tweaked shooter, the Norcs are hard to beat. If you want to be a competitive shooter there are better choices, unless you're shooting IDPA ESP. As the foundation for a full custom pistol, there are pros and cons - the pro is you'll end up with a pistol that has as tough a frame and slide as is available, the con is that it'll always be a Norc, so it may not have the value for resale that the exact same build on a different slide/frame would have.
If your doing a custom build you will never get the money you want back for the gun anyways. The only con with the Norinco is that they are so cheap you will find it hard to not buy another. I sold mine awhile ago and am waiting for some new shipments to come in. LOL

A Norinco in capable hands will outperform the costliest pistols out there in not so capable hands........the Man makes the pistol look good, never the otherway around![]()
