Seems like this thread is getting back on track, finally
So, how many rounds have you put through your Norinco 1911???
How is that barrel and frame holding up?
Anything need replacing?
Thanx to all with good info with respect to this topic.

5k means nothing. The 1911 can be truck along for many many thousands of rounds. The Norks use a chrome lined barrel, which resists wear and corrosion. I have a pistol here that has had nearly 80,000 rounds through it and the inside of the barrel still looks new and it is still very tight and accurate.

Wow, I didn't know the barrels were chrome lined
That's good news 8)
80,000 rounds must have been fun :D
After so many rounds, how is the overall gun holding up?

For the purpose of this thread, I hope DAR 701 was talking about a Norinco with the original barrel  :?

I'm just curious to know if 5000 rounds is a lot for the barrel of a Norinco 1911A1-C ?

1 round or 15,000 rounds, it makes no difference to the Norinco 1911,
if you get my drift ....

but that's not a Norinco is it?

Nope. A Steyr GB. I have a stripped Nork frame done up as a custom Commander. The steel and tolerances seem extremely good. I have no reason to doubt that a Nork would last a long time. The .45ACP is not a high pressure round and if you shoot lead bullets the barrel will last forever. Properly maintained any pistol should last at least one lifetime.

My Norinco 1911A1 has 9,400 rounds of fairly stiff .45 auto handloads through it, and it's is nicely "smoothed up" now. I expect another 100,000 or so before it needs anything. you know, like cleaning...that sort of thing.

The Norinco 1911 is a great pistol. Clarks Custom have built "race guns" using the Norinco factory slide, frams AND barrel. They're that good.

Jeff/1911.

I doubt it's a Colt either :p

Maybe, but probably not. Bet a Glock can go 80,000 rounds though. My G22 has well over 20,000 without any hic-cups.

Seriously what do you have against Taurus? :| Maybe your opinion would change if you’d try one out.

I just don't like 'em. And not many people do. They usually are just a copy of something else. [i.e. S&W or Beretta] Only they don't hold their value like the 'real thing' seems to...

I would like to try one out but no one I know, that shoots, actually owns one. Pretty much telling right there, ain't it?

Wow! NAA your ignorance and narrow minded attitude transcend anything I have ever seen! By the way, I have seen my share of Colts 1911 dropping the hammer "accidentally" after releasing the slide from a "slidelock" position. Plus, I have also seen my share of Berettas with cracked slides and broken locking block. But I guess it’s all OK because they are Colts and Berettas, right? Maybe you should change your attitude and get to know people that actually shoot and have a professional opinion about something they have tried before.

I despise Taurus. Not because I think they are terrible designs. Far from it. Taurus makes Beretta clones and S&W clones, so the design is as sound as most guns.

What I hate about Taurus is that their customer service is non-existant. Try to get replacement parts here in Canada. Good luck with that...
