Norinco 1911A1 - Police Model - Two Tone any good?

I've got 2 of the ones from a couple years back.
One is great.
One shoots like its full of gravel.

Both hit what your aiming at.

If I had to rate them I'd say they are not as good as the new batch that is currently in stores.

I'd spend a few extra $$ and get a SAM from wolverine if you want a decent 1911 that won't break your piggy bank. $450 gets you one of these.

Or one of these...

I have the 2 tone sport model from a couple years back. It is very accurate (more than me) and shoots nicely. Are you aware that these are forged of superior 5100 tool steel? This post explains it nicely: My Cat's a genius.

Are the SAM frames cast or forged?

SAM is a cast frame, forged slide, CNC machined to tight tolerances. Forged, sloppy milled Chinese "superior tool steel" means nothing when everything is rough, loose and out of spec. On the latest batch of Nork 1911's the small parts are mim/cast now too BTW.

I just ordered a SAM 1911 military enhanced in .45. It's going to be my next project, and ill do a side by side comparison to my norinco when it comes in. I think this SAM is going to turn out great, and already has a nicely fitted beavertail.

Small parts being mim sucks. None of the Norinco's I have owned have been loose or out of spec. They have always worked and provide exceptional value.

I have the newest version nork with the fiber sights and a Sam ss thunderbolt...they shoot identical. Both very accurate. One just looks a WHOLE lot better.
I changed the recoil spring on the Sam,..it was to wimpy,..I put in a Nork spring..100% percent LOL.

The finish on mine is holding up pretty good after about 500 rounds. It's a little uneven (light and dark spots) and the metal wasn't prepped very well before it was hard chromed but it's still pretty nice IMHO. The sights were canted from the factory, and I had to disassemble the rear sight and adjust the nut on the left side to straighten it out. After a few rounds the sight screws were gettin loose, so I had to put on some lock tight and slightly adjust the elevation. Also had to repaint the dots, they were flaking and dark. It works great after I fixed them.

Sights are pretty crappy with very limited windage adjustment, chrome with white/orange dots that are not easy to see, but still the best sights ever put on a Nork. Finish is some odd chrome type that isn't very even or durable. I'll shoot it for a bit, then take a bath on it when I dump it on the EE.

Windage barely moves at all, if you want it to move you have to completely dissasble the rear sight. The dust cover has a lot of burrs, and can mess up the finish as soon at you look at the gun. You should take it apart and debur. Might bother some people, but I don't really care.

Well, I have an analogy I like to use with norcs... "She isnt the fittest girl, nor the most beautiful...but she'll let you do bad things to her with no regrets." ;)

I have an norc 1911 a1 enhanced and it is VERY accurate, but lacks the pretty finish that the RIA or the SAM have. Still goes bang everytime tho.
