Norinco 1911's... how well does yours feed semi-wadcutters?

I just sent my np29 up to gunnar to get tuned, as it isn't feeding my wc's. just the fmj's.

I just checked with him, and he's got a wee bit of time, so I slid in there....Don't send yours up yet, wait till mines done =)

I buy DRG 200s from Hummason. Load 3.5g of 700X and 4.5g of 231. Have 2 1911 (one blue, one two tone) and a Nork Commander. All feed the SWC without problem. I load them so the bullet shank is just slightly protruding from the case mouth. A taper crimp reduces the risk of the case mouth snagging something.

I have an Armco-tuned Norinco 1911.

The first SWCs I tried were the Speer swaged lead ones. These bullets fed very poorly, with the bullet frequently hanging up between the frame and barrel.

I have also tried the 1 groove 200 grain SWC from M.T. Chambers. In addition to being hard cast, it has a much more enlongated nose than the Speer bullets, similar to the H&G #68. These are much better.

The Norinco magazines that came with the gun feed flawlessly with these bullets; the slide can be eased forward on a dummy round and it will still chamber.

I also have a couple 8 round Act-Mag magazines I purchased from Wolff. These ones have the occasional failure to feed, but they still function far better than they did with the Speer bullets. These magazines work fine with RN or TC bullet shapes.

I think the main difference between the Act-Mag and Norinco magazines in terms of feeding is that the round is angled upward more in the Norinco ones, so that the bullet nose can more easily clear the feed ramp.

my 1911 does not feed well on wad cutters, feeds just right with round nose or falt end ones, have to remember it was designed for round nose ammo, some guns need to be worked on ploished to feed wad cutters right

I have noticed the same with McCommrick mags as well. The angle was to flat.

Good day , You can polish the ramp yourself . use a buffing pad on a dremel tool, dip the pad into into valve grinding compound. this will polish the ramp up to a mirror finish.you can buy the compound at Lordco

You must remeber that the 1911 was designed to feed round nose ammo, and wad cutters will jam it up, I anly use 230 grain round nose ammo in mine, works 99 percent of the, the 1 perent stoppage you can find with any gun, and the stopage is always failure to eject. you can have your ramp polished, by my two cents worh, if it an't broke, don't fix it and stay with round nose.

Thanks for all the repsonses guys.

I decided to send it to Gunnar to get tuned etc as I don't trust myself not to goof anythig up lol

feed ramp

hey canuck shooter . if your around the burlington area drop by the burlington rifle and revolver club . we have a really good gunsmith on tuesday nights . rodger kotanko . he sells norinco 1911 pistols . he even has his own brand of 1911 in 40 s&w made at the chinese state arsenal. check out his website dark International . the feedramp is part of the frame . you mind as well give buddy the whole gun and get him to look it over . tell him your on a budget . alway;s set your limits . good luck

I've got a stock Norinco and I've pretty much only ever fed it lead semi-wadcutters. Never had a problem. At least 2000 rounds, by counting the number of times I've had to buy boxes of 500 bullets for reloading.

As noted previously, it's mostly the magazine.

I have a NP-29 set up for .38 Special Wadcutter.
Not semi-wadcutter, but flush with the case mouth full wadcutter.
The pistol feeds just fine.

However, I did massage the mags for a few hours each.
Until they would feed fired cases reliably.

If the mags are just right, the round feeds straight into the chamber without touching the ramp.

Smoothing the ramp, is for those times when the alignment isn't so perfect.:)

Reminds me I've gotta pick up a few more boxes of Fiocchi 230 gr JHP .45ACP before the supply dries up.... ;)

it should not take to much polishing, i saw a sight that showed a before and after polish of the feedcramp, i compared the ramp of my norc to the pics and saw that it was already polished, and i brought it new, so it should not take to much to polish it.

Mine never fed wadcutters at all.

Of course, it didn't feed much, reliably at all, but that's a different story.... I wouldn't want to awaken the cult to come and burn the heretic at the stake....

I shot mine for the first time yesterday and it did not like Winchester 230gr Win clean (SWC) ammo at all, I had to eject like every second and third round, it would jam into the top of the barrel remove it and the next one would or would not feed truly frustrating best I got out of a mag was the last one it feed 5 in a row. Is there any mods links for the Norincos Thanks
