Hey Guys.

I just grabbed a crate of the Norinco .223 1600 round crates from Al Flaherty's.

I popped the top open to check it out and it is in 2 giant rectangular cans. I was just wondering how do it open them? The can looks like my standard can opener won't work on it. Do i need to punch the whole top off with like a p-38 or something?

Hi Eddy_bullpoo

You could try thr P38 method but I thought they came with a key that opened it from the side(like a can of corned beef-lol)

Regards, Kevin

Can you post a pic? The two 1600 round cases of Norinco 223 that I have seen were just wooden crates with eighty 20 round boxes inside...

Cheers

What are people getting from SFRC...
Seems like some of them have 2 SPAM cans of 800 rounds and some have all of the boxes in a large plastic bag.

Here is what it looks like. Yeah I had to lift the can out and there was a weird key under it.

I got it from Al's for $420. Sweet deal!!

They said it was non corrosive.... I hope it is. And yeah I was expecting the 80 boxes in a bag... But I think I like this better... Now I can leave a can here and put the rest at my BOL, I was gonna get some ammo cans, but I guess I don't need to now.

What's the year of manufacture? Can you post a pic of the round? And a pic of the base of the round showing the markings?

Cheers
Jay

Look on the side of the can. There should be what looks like a strip with a bulge on it that has a hole the size of the key. Insert the key and then start turning it like you are opening a can of SPAM (or corned beef as another poster said). Just keep turning it until the whole thing is off. It should reveal the rounds .. or maybe a big huge slab of corned beef.

People are dating themselves here, how many younger people know what Spam is any more, LOL.

Eddy, it's good ammo and non corrosive. Once you get it open you will find it is not boxed, but is wrapped in paper packets of 30 (or 50, I forget) rounds.

Here is what was inside the can.

It was a bunch or little packages of ammo. The rounds are wrapped in brown paper there are no boxes...

They are bundled in groups of 40.. If you pick them up or move them they start to open and rounds fall out..

This is what they look like when you open the bundle..

And here is the head stamp. It is stamped 95.

I WANT SPAM CANS!!!

I have a case of the Norinco on it's way from Canada Ammo... I really hope I get SPAM CANS!!! Now that I've seen the ammo is the same NON-Corrosive!!!

Cheers

They were selling it at Target too for $499, But one of the crates was open enough that you could see it was boxes... I wonder if I should head down and get another crate!

I just picked up a case. Is it really 223 or is it 5.56? Just wondering if I can shoot it in my Mini 14 target? It says 223 only.

If no, can I get a Wylde chamber done?
