Seems to be mostly the CJ 93 thats doing it.

So the Norinco 55gr M193 (head Stamp C J 93), combined with 1in7 twist barrels of various length, is inconsistently producing these results. As some 1in7 twist barrel users report no issues and others clearly show extreme yaw. Strange and as yet inexplicable.

Shot 120 rds of norc thru my 10.5" nea and 16" sti. No issues...no keyholing.
Top rounds 10.5" with eotech at 40y...i was rushing. Bottom right rounds with 4x scope on 16" sti

I've put about 1000 rounds of CJ93 head stamped Norinco 223 through my 1 in 7 twist 14.5" barrel and have never noticed any key holing of any sort. Mind you, half or more of those rounds were shot at steel rather than paper. It is a perplexing issue to say the least!

I was interested in that photo ost posted today. I have fired 2+ crates out of a tavor and ar15 with 20 and 14.5" 1/7 barrel. I have never had a keyhole on a paper target. Has anyone else used this ammo in a tavor or 14.5" ar 1/7 and had key holes? I am worried as I have 3 more crates of norc .223 and a Nea 7.5 on the way.

My Tavor fires it with no problems. No key holes yet....

I think I'm about half way through my 800 rounds of CJ 93 through my 10.5" 1:7 twist AR and haven't seen a single keyhole at 25-50 yards. It has been pretty good ammo, and helped to quickly point out which parts needed loctite. :)

Excellent plan, I have yet to come across any of the CJ95 stuff, but it seems it's only the CJ93 that is key holing like this. If the CJ93 Keyholes, please pull some rounds and have them measured with a caliper if possible, and post your results.

I put 250 rounds of CJ93 through my sig 516 and experienced no key holes, so both CJ93 yellow box and CJ95 span can work fine

I wonder what caused the 3 rifles with the same twist two keyhole then. If more and more people have no issues with the 1in7's then ammo is the next thing to look at, but who ever pulls the bullets says their good to go. I guess it's possible that 3 different rifles, owned by three different people all have the same problem, but not likely. This one really has me stumped...

Steve, next time u go to the range, borrow my ar's, my norc ammo and see if you can replicate the keyhole. If u time it right, I might be back in country to lend it, if not, the wife can open it up for u.

I would guess that it is just inconsistent manufacturing and one case may be fine while another could have undersized bullets mixed in. I don't think it's the rifle, someone that is getting the keyholing needs to pull a couple boxes worth of bullets and mic them all.
As 300Spartans said this is just blam blam ammo anyway. I would be more worried about making sure I didn't get a case with bi-metal bullet jacketing than the odd undersized bullet that keyholes.

To me it isn't enough of a savings over the AE 55gr stuff to risk it. I'll pay a little more and know I'm not ruining my barrels.
No metal cases and no bi-metal jackets for my rifles.

I believe I got mine from henry the same time others did, if that matters.

I'd be all over that man. Next range session is scheduled for the 9th of June. I'll contact you before then.

sorry dude. out of country. hit me up on the FB and I can arrange you get a hold of my stuff before I leave.

No key-holing from my DD Mk18, KAC SR15 11.5", 6920 16" or 18.6" ACR from this ammo. All 1in7

1600 thru the above with CJ93, on to CJ95 now about 800 no issues either.
