Norinco .223 brass "holes"

I had one split case, out of about forty I fired today, with this ammo in my Armalite.

It's not from a marked up or dirty chamber, or any other gun related issue. It's the ammo. It's low quality and that's just a fact of life. At least it's priced appropriately.

The cracked necks/shoulders I would agree is due to low quality brass, but the burn holes are still a bit of a mystery...
 
Hi,

Have you tried cutting the failed brass along the circumference of the split/cut and then measuring the thickness versus another type of brass?

Maybe this will answer whether the case near the base of the brass is too thin or out of spec.

We'll..I guess I no longer have to spend any time retrieving my spent brass...it's Junk and not worth reloading. My only fear is getting chamber erosion after using this ammo for a long time

Had another rupture today... Bought a couple crates with a whole different lot numbers (#10,#19,#25). This is really starting to pi$$ me off. Seems like it gets progressively more evident as the lot numbers get higher. I fired a 1600 round crate of lot# 19, without a SINGLE issue. I got 2 out of about 200 today that failed with my new batch (lot# 25). Lot # 32 was about 2 out of every 80 rounds.

It was a valid question. Geez man, it's just the internet.

And I'm speaking from experience. I had a case of white box Norinco two years ago that was crap in all three of my ARs. Blown and flattened primers, split necks, and warped rims from extraction. It ran like a hot damn in one of my buddy's rifles so I sold it and moved on.
 
You cought me in a sassy mood... It pisses me off, because I like to shoot, like, a lot! This ammo is half the price of anything else out there, and the first crate I went through functioned flawlessly (which got me addicted to the stuff). Went out and stocked up an embarrassing amount, and now it's the bain of my existence. The supplier has agreed to take back the lot#'s 31&32, but I've foolishly purchased more "paper wrapped" with lot#'s closer to my "flawless" crate, still the issue follows me. Guess I'm just chasing that dragon.

The ammo is still capable of better accuracy than I am...
 
The most curious part is: Why is this such an isolated issue? Most folks that have this ammo have seen nothing similar to our "ruptured" casings... 2 different AR's for me, a Tavor and AR for the OP. Seems like I'm the only one that has seen any damage from the faulty rounds.

I have bought the same ammo, didn't had the chance to fire it yet...
I am following you thread very closely and started to worry!

Did this faulty ammo damage your Tavor in any way!?
 
Newest development:

The last round I fired yesterday didn't go BANG! Instead it was jammed real tight in the chamber. So tight I was barely strong enough to yank the charging handle back to get it out. When it "ejected", I noticed the primer bulging out of the casing. I'd be playing Russian roulette by trying to pick it up, so I kicked it away from my bench. Later (much later), I picked it up to have a look.

Here's what I saw:

A keen eye will spot the difference in the "dud" brass (photo 1), and an un-fired casing (photo 2):

This is lot# 25 "paper wrapped" Norinco. I'm beginning to think it's not worth shooting any Norinco ammo through anything... Not safe or your firearm, not safe for the shooter.

Gunmo- I am away at work so not much time to reply. I had a look and scrubbed the tavors chamber after my first post and did not see any damge...YET. I will simply continue to fire my next 3.5 crates Of the ammo and document any problems. I had ZERO problems until the whitebox ammo showed up
 
I had issues with CJ95 in my mini 14s, its keeps jamming up and stove piping. I found the case rims were out of speck, to large on many rounds and not allowing the extractor to grab them properly. Lots of split necks, some really hard kicking rounds mixed in that slammed the bolt against the back of the receiver. One reload and the brass was done, I didn't bother picking it up the second time.
