Norinco 311 Rifle

I hear Norinco makes a AR type of rifle called the 311, anyone know anything about them. I cant even seem to find a picture of one.
 
The do make a clone of an SP1 (Ar15 with no brass deflector, A1 sights, and a 20" 1/12 barrel).

They are a good value for the money. I had one for a few years, and it was very reliable and accurate.

AWESOME beginner AR, in my opinion.

Do a search for "CQ311" and you'll get some hits.
 
About a year ago you could've still found CQ311s new for sale with imagines on the vedor's store websites. Dark International is the main one to come to mind. But it seems that most of the CQ311s being bought and sold these days are used. I'm not 100% sure if you can even find a new CQ311 at a store these days. Regardless, if you're looking for picures, browse the Equipment Exchange forums. Most people seem to post pictures of what they're selling these days. Plenty of CQ311s get swapped on CGN.
 
Really, the only downsides of the rifle compared to a name brand AR are as follows:

-Crappy finish. Painted aluminum. Can be corrected with GunKote!!!
-Metric threading. Really only an issue for the barrel nut, as a collapseable carbine stock can be made to fit (why you'd want one on a 20" barrel is beyond me, but I digress...)
- 1/12" twist rate. Allows 55grn to be stablized, but really nothing larger. Not a problem if you shoot surplus 55grn like me!
- lack of brass deflector - really only an issue for lefties like me, but the brass usually JUST whizzed by my face... only caught one or two... :)

Other than that, they are a fine start to the AR addiction.

Another option is not having a picatinny rail for future sight/optic upgrade.
 
i picked one up used. Previous owner upgraded the pistol grip and forend already as well he said it had had a trigger job. Shot well so i grabbed it.

i just picked up a bunch of Colt upgrad parts for it from a CGN'er here but have not had time to play. For the limited time on the range i get to spend with it lots of fun. Cheaper gun = more money for ammo.:dancingbanana:

Its been a good rifle for me, but it rarely leaves the safe since I got my PE90

Love mine too. I went with the retro look and slapped on some triangular handguards and a A1 grip (got rid of the ugly Norc furniture), plus swapped the front site base for a Colt. Finish is so-so but it looks good enough for what I'm doing with it. Goes bang every time I pull the trigger. A great, inexpensive way to get into the AR game!

That said, I'll probably be looking to sell it off in the new year when I get back. My eyes are bigger than my safe! Plus I need to raise funds for a new project.
 
I wouldn't spend my money away on an AR without a brass deflector or a forward assist. They are essential to all but the most casual shooter.

Here I be.... I am no AR expert but I do know one thing ...A cheap chi-com copy of an American service rifle is wrong.
