To really enjoy your 1911, get a large piece of cardboard, about 4' X 6', even bigger is great.
Put a 6" target 3/4 way up from the bottom.
Then post your target at whatever distance you wish to shoot.
Fire 5 aimed shots, if it hits low, tape over your last shots, then shoot again with more front sight, you should be closer to the bull.
When shooting do not look for your hits only after you have fired 5 shots..
Using a target like this you can back your target to 100 yards if you wish. You will have to increase your bull to 12" diameter.
You have to shoot your handgun a lot to get good at it.
At home in the basement, post a target the size of a looney.
Make double sure your gun is empty.
Now from different distances practice aimed shots and point shooting, 15 minutes a night.
After a month you will be amazed how much your shooting has improved.
Practice 15 minutes every day, all the time. Do this in the privacy of your basement or you WILL get a visit from your local SWAT team.
