Does anyone know what range the stock sights are set for?

What is is the range the original Government Model 1911-A1 sights are set for?

I have adjustable rear on my Norinco; but use a bench rest, fire 5 rounds and see where they hit at a given range. Calculate from there. Mine shoots great with 230 gr bullets loaded below max, but not much lower. Copper plated lead functions better than polymer coated bullets.

You will love it!

I was wondering what distance the sights are typically set for from factory (mine are non-adjustable)

Mine shoots pretty flat out to 20 yards
mine needed a new frt barrel bushing to tighten the groups up but then shot about 4" low. 10yrd or 20yrd was about the same
I just put the sights at 12 oclock and seem to shoot ok with that.

I was looking for a taller GI rear sight , that frt sight is already short enough with taking it down more to bring up the POI

the Norinco 1911-A1 I recently acquired appears to be shooting 2" high at 10 yards (230 gr FMJ PMC Bronze and AE).

Would POI be closer to POA at 25 yards?

Your grip, trigger control, ammunitionand of course sight picture can be just as influential in where the group lands. Try different ammo or if you reload, a different load. Heavy bullets going slow tend to hit higher.

Yes, I understand. But I get about a 3" group and seeing as it's presumably a GI replica, I was wondering if the sights are set for a particular distance (for 230 gr ball) or if it's a crap shoot, as is often the case with Norinco

The two unmarked ones I had were pretty much bang on at 20 yards with 230 grain ball factory ammo. For comparison an actual GI 1911 was shooting considerably higher than that.

With my paint splatter grouping, my unmarked 1911 was pretty much on at 15 and 20 yards, shoots fairly flat with the old Norc 230 grain ammo, was/is fairly hot stuff!

I was shooting at 10 yards only. Maybe that's why it was hitting 2" high (whether I held a 6:00 POA or a middle of bullseye POA). I'll try 25yd and see where they land.

I've shot a no name Norinco at 20 or so yards and if I did my part it shot to point of aim. from what I have heard they are very durable pistols .

Love mine, I will buy a colt someday when I have $1500 to spare, but I don't expect $1200. More in performance! I haven't started to mod or improve it yet but don't expect to need/want much!

To really enjoy your 1911, get a large piece of cardboard, about 4' X 6', even bigger is great.
Put a 6" target 3/4 way up from the bottom.
Then post your target at whatever distance you wish to shoot.
Fire 5 aimed shots, if it hits low, tape over your last shots, then shoot again with more front sight, you should be closer to the bull.
When shooting do not look for your hits only after you have fired 5 shots..
Using a target like this you can back your target to 100 yards if you wish. You will have to increase your bull to 12" diameter.
You have to shoot your handgun a lot to get good at it.
At home in the basement, post a target the size of a looney.
Make double sure your gun is empty.
Now from different distances practice aimed shots and point shooting, 15 minutes a night.
After a month you will be amazed how much your shooting has improved.
Practice 15 minutes every day, all the time. Do this in the privacy of your basement or you WILL get a visit from your local SWAT team.
