Norinco 5.56 1120 Round Spam Can Deal

It's the "white box" 5.56. It will say "LOT: 32" (or 31) on the top of the front box panel. The outside of the crate will be marked with something like: "CJ124-95-32"/"CJ124-95-31"

I haven't experienced any issues with the "paper wrapped" Norinco crate ammo ("CJ-5-19"), thus far.

Great - I have three cases of this stuff. Is this going to damage my Tavor??????

Iam going to check mine when I get home, but that's still only 2 people out of the 100's who have ordered and shot this stuff so it still has a good track record in my opinion

I have Lot 29. About 450 rounds through my Tavor with no issues at all. I picked up 90% of the brass and it looks fine.

I'm still shooting surplus 8mm Mauser from around the 50's...

This is a hell of a price for .223.

I was wondering if this ammo is safe to shoot in a .223 bolt action gun iv read mixed reviews on the internet saying its fine and saying its not good shooting 5.56 in .223 gun.

If it's stamped .223, not a good idea to put this ammo through it... Aside from the quality issues, your rifle isn't designed for the higher pressures of the 5.56.

That's not to say it will blow up, but .223, and 5.56 are marginally different, and it's likely safer to stick with the slightly milder .223. This Norinco ammo is sold as .223, but that's somewhat misleading.

My brass came out good, haven't tried to reload it yet. As cheap as it is, even if you leave the brass where it lies it's still a bargain

for me when I tried reloading this brass about 1/3 of the primers were loose enough you could shake them out, the other half the primers seated looser then i'm comfortable with, the ammo is good, but I no longer save the brass for reloading, theres enough domestic brass laying around that it's a non-issue.

(I did shoot the reloads with no issues, but it's not worth it IMO, although YMMV)

Use .243 ballistic coefficient. The norinco ammo is 2 moa out of my Tavor.

Your suggestion of .243 seems very high. I made a cursory review of some commercial rounds and found something around .133 for a 55 grain FMJ was a better choice. I used an online ballistic program to generate a trajectory chart using 3200 fps muzzle velocity as per someone's previous chronograph measurement. It will be some time before I can get out to a range to make any kind of verification but here are those results:

OK JBD, eating some crow here. After some more searching, I find other sources that list bc for 55g FMJBT ranging from .240 to .269, so the .133 I found for a Sierra bullet is odd. So using a bc of the higher range will improve longer range trajectory. Not going to repost a lot of numbers, online ballistic programs are available to everyone.

PS found a good site ballisticstudies. com with a good read on terminal ballistic research, here's a very interesting excerpt :
"The most useful FMJ designs to look out for are Norinco's 55 grain ammunition along with Federal American Eagle 62 grain ammunition. The Norinco cartridge is truly unique. Muzzle velocity is no less that 3300fps from barrels as short as 20”. Accuracy is always around 1MOA and terminal performance is outstanding. Other 55 grain FMJ loads do not duplicate this performance. Please note: the cartridge case of the Norinco M193 ball is made to military dimensions which are slightly smaller than sporting ammunition dimensions in order to ensure smooth feeding in military arms. This can occasionally create problems in sporting rifles with maximum dimension chambers resulting in frequent misfires. This problem can be remedied by replacing the bolt spring with a heavier after market spring (Wolf Springs)."
