Hey Gang,
Just did a search and didn't find anything, so I will ask here...and if there is a thread already, feel free to link it...

Found some crates of 1600 Norinco 5.56 for roughly $500. Works out to $0.31 a shot compared to Federal at $0.41 a shot. My Stag Arms 8 will use both (5.56+.223) but...is the Norinco worth the price as far as quality goes? Are there any issues? Anything to look out for? The crates contain 2x800 tins fwiw...

Thanks for the input.

Who said it isn't accurate or reliable? I have burned through thousands and have many thousands more to go. It is a hell of a lot better than American Eagle.

I'm not going to get into the huge CGN debate about it but I disagree and have found the American Eagle to be both more accurate and more reliable.

I have shot about 2700 Norc in the last 3 months and found at least 5-10 grossly undersized projectiles. That is the Chinese quality for ya though.

It's worth the price for what it is

American eagle is 150-200fps slower, more expensive and no more consistent than the norinco ammo. I only have a lowly elcan specter DR to use but I also find it much more accurate. I am glad I bought as much of it as I could.

I have zero issues with the Norc .223 or the AE bulk .223. I havent seemed to have any major accuracy changes between running the two different brands either. When it comes down to it a 1600 round case for $419, $449, or even at $499 your ahead of the game, but yes it is plinking ammo, you wont see me trying to shoot groups with my bolt guns but thats not what its for. Stock up while its cheap you wont regret it.

is it safe in .223 guns since its 5.56 ammo? (compare the necks on commercial .223 to the norinco - they are different)

I know there are varying opinions on this, and you are generally not supposed to, but many claim otherwise

Just so you know what you are getting, here is how the most recent ammo is packaged:

The crate contains two of these cans

Can-opener

One can-opener worked, the other broke less than half way though

Problem solved

How it's packaged inside the metal can.

Each paper package contains 40 rounds. Each metal can contains 20 paper packages, for a total of 800 rounds per can, 1600 per case.

One of these plastic ammo boxes can hold 650 loose rounds.

Only 1300 rounds fit into the ammo boxes

Problem solved. Hope my wife doesn't miss the tupperware.

The ammo cans work well for the going to the range. The ammo itself is externally cleaner then red-box American Eagle 223.

So thats how the new shipments are coming now, I just recieved a few more crates last week from the $419 sale and they were still in the individual yellow boxes of 20

Depends on the source as to what 5.56 package you end up getting: Spam can vs yellow boxes. Some retailers are selling the spam cans, some the yellow boxes. The crate I got today from CanAm was CJ 93 yellow boxes.

There are people that have put 5.56 through a .223 chamber and nothing has happened but I would not. 5.56, though very similar in size to .223, has a higher pressure that a .223 chamber is not made for. That said, a .223 wylde chamber is made to put handle .223 and 5.56. Also, it is safe to put .223 through a 5.56 chamber.
