Claybuster; I'm not sure anyone really wants a 12 inch 8 gauge, it was more of a tongue in cheek thing.
I know that I for one, would very much prefer a conventional barrel length for such a firearm, and yes, I agree with you. THere would be very real safety concerns with a shorty 8 gauge. That's why it's more of a humorous idea, than a realistic one.
And while it is true that there are challenges to be overcome with this 8 gauge shotgun idea, they aren't "out of this world" difficulties.
An 8 gauge double isn't everyone's cup of tea, but that's ok, there are a number of firearms that I don't own, like tactical firearms, but I certainly wouldn't want to discourage anyone from owning and enjoying them.
So. As to getting ammunition components, we do need to get them from the united states to Canada. I think it's lucky that we have a company, CanadaAmmo, that is experienced in importing and exporting and also that sporting shotgun ammunition and components are subject to different, less stringent regulations than centerfire ammunition exportation from the U.S.
