Norinco cq a 5.56

One of the 'problems' with the Norcs is that they can be really dirty (with grit and dust from the factory) when they are brand new. If you can't 'wiggle' the bolt stop up and down, there's probably something jamming it, it could be dirt, sand (factory sand) or a small sliver of brass - which happens.

Thanks for the tip. But the bolt catch actually can be moved up and down, it's just that it's not catching the bolt. But will still check anyway to see if there is something jamming it.
Thanks

Could be as simple as an out of spec bolt catch. However, that should make the gun returnable unless they can send you a new catch.

The only problem I have had with my Norc is that the parts all seem to be interchangeable with NA parts so there is no apparent limit to how much I can modify and tweak the platform $$$$$$$

Seriously, I have had no malfunction or problems of any kind. I don't use the Norc mags as I prefer the PMags. I change out the grip and that is the extent of changes I felt I NEEDED to make. The changes I WANTED to make....that is another story:D

Who the hell do you think you are Fluxcore ???
Better grab yourself a bar of soap and wash your mouth with it !

I posted this because I want to know if there is anyone else that had the similiar problem and also to provide some input on my experience.

Having said this,

it seems that I don't have user permission to post attachements. I do have some pictures. For thoses interested, please contact me so that I can send you the pics and maybe get some feedback here.

In a nutshell, i received the m4 on Tuesday. Went to the range at CRAFM and bought 3 boxes of 20 rounds each in order to test the M4 and zero it.
After my 2d box I noticed that the bolt catch wasnt holding back the bolt after my last cartridge. Even tried to manually use the bolt catch and it wouldnt work. Contineud a bit shootin through my 3d box until I noticed that the rear takedown pin had slide out halfway.

I'm opened to constructive feedback guys, not a load of crap like this fluxcore gave me...

Don't get your panties in a bunch:rolleyes: seeing excessive wear on the bolt after 40 rounds is an extremely hard thing for me to believe without seeing pics. Don't let my brash post wreak your week, I can be a bit of an ass sometimes but i can assure you my intent is not to offend you.

I got a norc m4 from badger, very happy with the customer service. Canada post took their time getting it to me but thats another issue. Anyways, got the package in good condition, opened it up and while i was checking it out, the rear take down pin wandered itself out, took it apart to find there was no spring for the detent pin. Called badger to let them know about the problem, and that i picked up a new spring that weekend. he offered compensation, worth much more than the 2$ spring.

And my bolt catch would let go if the rifle got bumped even gently, so i turned out the tube one turn and it is gone. Im very happy with the rifle, shoots snowballs at 75 yards with the irons and i myself am not an overly good shooter

ok, so I'll try :
1) to turn out the tube one turn

2)Look and see if the spring for the detent pin is missing

I've never had to play with the collapsable stock before so , can someone tell me how to turn the tube on it ?

Thanks everyone

Finally , I cleaned the m4, and here's what I noticed:
Without a mag , i really have to work on it in order for the bolt catch to hold the bolt. It barely does.
With an empty mag , it holds it now
Better but still I get the feeling that it should be holding it better.
My take on this is that I should change the bolt catch . Is this easy to do? Any opinions ?

Is NORINCO CQ A 5.56 (AR 15 - M4) a good rifle for $675? Bushmaster is $1800!!!

To get back to the OP's original question; Here is my 0.02¢

I do not own a Norc anything. I always told myself that I would never buy any of that Chinese garbage.
Now with that said; here is a little history on me.
I have worked as a quality inspector for a machine shop for 11 years. Because of this I find that I will pick apart just about any product I buy for quality issues.
My Brother-in-law picked up one of these rifles and all I can say is WOW!
I picked the crap out of this rifle. The fit, finish, general appearance, etc... really shocked me.
Then I shot it.
3 shots at 50 yards - iron sights - quarter size group.
Would I buy one? A great big YES. It is on my list of the next toy to buy. If it wasn't for a lack of funds I would have picked one up during a trip to Epp's this weekend.

Moral of the story.
Price=Win
Quality=Win
Accuracy=Win

Did you clean off all the junk the gun was packed with? That stuff is not lube, it's a preservative. Give it a good cleaning, pop your bolt catch out and make sure there's no dirt in there and then follow up with a good lubing.

Cleaned and lubed it. As for the buffer tube , the pin is
Holding it and it's not sticking out more than it's suppose
To. The bolt catch wiggles fine and moves through it's entire
Range of motion. I'm thinking it's out of spec.

I was waitlisted and received one from Marstar about 6 months ago. I really really like it. At first I didn't want to keep it, it came as a surprise after returning from Hawaii for vacation, there was a package delivered for me containing a Norc CQ-a. I wasn't prepared to have bought this rifle at the time and nothing was emailed to me before sending/transferring it, but I couldn't send it back.

The price point plus the fact that it really is pretty nicely put together made it too compelling. Well that and I have always wanted to own an AR. The rifle delivered from Marstar had absolutely no problems and nothing was missing, scratched or broken.

I would easily recommend this rifle to anyone wanting an AR. There is only ONE caveat, and it was mentioned before. *DO NOT* buy this rifle and think you can use the shipped mags. They are ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Both of mine would double feed or jam with one round's bullet stuffed down into the front of the magazine. The spring/plate feeding the rounds in the stock mags are such crap they shouldn't even ship them.

So, you NEED TO, not optional, buy nice mags when you get this gun. Personally, I went for a black 5/30 Magpul PMAG for some looks, and some LAR-15 10 rounders, for obvious reasons. Do that and you're golden. Everything else after that is pimping/customizing your new AR.

NOTE: if anyone knows, I noticed that Marstar is now sold out of the CQ-a. I'm just curious if they are getting more. Is anyone else bringing these rifles in in any significant quantities moving forward? Are they hard to get now?

I have to say, I owned a Colt before this, and when they first came out I was like pffft....would never own one. I own one now and the newer version is nice. Shoots well, have about 300 so far out of it, no issues, shooting cheap 55 grain through it so haven't really pushed the accuracy on it until I get a decent optic. Through some magpul stuff on it.
I can now drop money on a decent optic and accessories and still be in the 1200 range.

Don't think you can really go wrong with this gun.

I called 3 or 4 places and they were all sold out, and i finally found one in Lever Arms. I got it last week and i love it. this rifle is worth every penny, as matter of fact I think it is way under priced. I would recommend it to everyone who is interested in an M4.

Problem finally solved. Spoke to frank at Marstar and it seems it has happen before. He knew exactly what it was: a problem with the bolt catch .
He says he needs to take some material off in order for it to go all the way up and thus, locking the bolt in place. Nothing to do with the buffer tube having be to be turned or anything else.

Mine jams every shot from the day I bought it. It has never once cycled. Short strokes. In fact I'm not sure the bolt carrier groupe even moves on firing. Yes it's clean.

Does the bolt an carrier show signs of carbon after firing? Does the rifle "TWANG" when it fires (buffer and spring slamming to rear of buffer tube)?. If not, I could be a problem with the gas system. It really could be that the BCG is not moving if no gas is getting to the action to cycle it.

Maybe try taking off the hand guards to see if the gas tube is in place or if you can see any holes in the tube where gas could be leaking?

Regardless, a non-cycling AR is amazingly NOT acceptable. I would seriously plan on returning it (if you bought it from a retailer) for repair or replacement.

Let us know how it turns out.
