norinco CQ-A

I own a Norc and use a Colt Canada weekly. Both are equally reliable. The colt canada feels overall more well built, but I notice no difference in accuracy or reliability for my needs.

That said I'm not entering competitions and trying to put 5 rounds through one hole.

No offence to the nay sayers, but I own a cq311 and two cqa's (as well as 60+ other guns) and they perform flawlessly. When they don't, Ill remind myself that I'm into them for very little, and have nothing to whine about, until then, I have to admit... it's a bargain.

You don't mean to offend the nay sayers, but for some reason, the nay sayers are clearly offended, lol! Not by you per se, just by the fact that some people here don't actually hate the Norc.....not sure why some folks feel the need to go on some crusade to convince every one that Norcs are evil.

I notice the quality in the rifles are much more different than pistols. I wouldn't touch their pistols with a 10' pole

I must have the best luck, because all my guns function great. Suomi m31 by tnw: perfect. Norinco rifles and pistols: perfect. Type 95's: perfect. Cz858's: perfect. What can I say? I promise to ##### when it applies, but I've got no issues. I'm not saying others don't, but my experience is great. I own HK's, Glocks, Walthers, Rugers, Remingtons, all sorts. My experience has been equally good, so I can't throw stones at those that are cheaper. The finish may be rougher, but tools are judged by function, not form.

Happy shooting, don't be negative unnecessarily!

And yah, don't listen to the detractors and AR-snobs. The Norinco Rifles work great, and are an excellent value. I honestly don't notice any difference in performance or accuracy between my "20 CQA and my A2 style colt.

Thank YOU!!!

Ok this one is going to cause an uproar. My personal experience and does not apply to other norcs....

My cqa has the best stock trigger i've ever felt out of the box on a non-upgraded AR. Crazy eh?

This says it all.

I got mine and took it to the range within hours. Zeroed it with iron sights at 100 meters and with same zero i was hitting steel plates at 265 meters and that too with open sights. What else would i wish from a rifle out of box . so far as finish is concerned, for me it is good , others mileage may varie but again ,scars suit to men and rifles

Methinks somebody put a different trigger into that cqa before you got it. I've tried several bone-stock CQ-A's and the triggers were milspec horrible.

You might have gotten lucky and got a trigger some shop class kid spent lots of time polishing........;)

Lol. It was brand new. Seriously though, it's not a light trigger, but it breaks like glass. I put a DD trigger kit in my NEA lower, and it's a gritty, mushy pile of poo. Is that what mil-spec is supposed to feel like?

The CQ-As that the Chinese Special Forces were using during that competition were selected from the racks for their quality and then smithed up to a specific standard for the Chinese SF, so you're probably looking at rifles that are worked up to be as good as the SOPMods used by USSOCOM. As for the rest, I wouldn't be surprised if they have better overall support for their weapons than we on Canadian civvie street have. Not to mention that while these militaries may not have very deep pockets, they're damn sure deeper than most everybody on here has.

I am an advocate for those who are starting out to grab one of these rifles to see how they like ARs. It's better to learn how to use an AR on one of these instead of risking a better quality rifle on the learning curve. If you're being taught by a professional how to use the rifle, then you can invest in a pricier bang stick with less risk.

Heh I think some folks in here have forgotten that the venerable SKS is a military grade weapon. Those and CQ's may not scratch their ultra special forces fanboy itch but they're just fine for the average fella. If a Norc fits your budget then buy it and shoot it. Do terrible things to it that you wouldn't do to an ultra special forces fanboy rifle. Heck, just buy whatever and shoot it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm fairly new to this hobby but the responses in this thread were very helpful. I've just ordered one on Marstar, and I'm looking forward to using it as a starter gun when it arrives. :)

In the meantime - is there a specific brand of ammo that one might recommend? Cost-effective but reliable, like the CQ-A itself?

If you just want to plink, see if you can find Norc ammo, buy it bulk, stock it tall, stock it deep.

I have two from Marstar. Mrs. Cannon and I both have one. For me, I want a 50-yars carbine, and these are awesome. I was actually impressed with the quality for the price. We shoot cheap Norco ammo, and have had no problems. I you want a fun AR for the price, this is the gun for you. Not to mention Marstar's service is awesome. I've bought a ton of guns from them and have not been disappointed. I just wish they'd stop posting deals so I wouldn't be broke lol.
