Hey all, just got a my new CQ bout a week ago and thought to myself it would be great to have one comprehensive thread about small mods to make to the rifle to ...say...take the creep out of the trigger and basically make the rifle more comfy.im NOT talking about different rails, grips or parts.I mean what one can do with some basic tools at home.Thx

Unless you want to stay with the iron sights, remove the carry handle, install a riser and low powered variable scope. Any decent quality hunting scope will be fine.
There are a couple of ways of smoothing and removing creep from the trigger. First is the bootlace trigger job. Install a pad in front of the hammer so that it cannot strike the lower receiver. Hook a bootlace, etc. around the hammer. Pull hard while squeezing the trigger. Repeat numerous times. The extra load will help smooth the engagement.
Then there is the setscrew trigger job. The grip screw hole comes up under the trigger. Basically, you install a setscrew which presses on the trigger, rotating it slightly to take up some creep. You must not move the trigger far enough that the safety is compromised. Try googling 15 minute trigger job, or some such. You will find detailed instructions.
There are all sorts of tactikewl modifications popular with the mirror kommando crowd. No harm playing Mr. Dressup with your carbine if it gives pleasure, but performance trumps appearance.
Better to put money into range time and ammunition than into doodads, gimcracks and gewgaws.

Hmmm ok,i appreciate the reply but i stated im not asking for mods i need to spend money on,just what someone can do with basic tools.Ive been in the forces for a while and i know what i like on my rifles so im not trying to start another thread on the gazillion rails or sights out there.Just need some clear concise info on things i can do to make it perform a tad better,by clear and concise i mean imagine i dont build rifles for a living.

On my AR-clone i got the following:

CTR Stock (commercial)
MOE Handguards and V grip
Moe illumination kit
Gen2 RBUIS
Rubber Ergogrip (May be my favorite mod)
Vickers Sling

Shoots great, no major problems. Only thing I can say is that the action sometimes can close if i slam the stock. Not to derail but anyone else experience this?

YES, Standard feature...

If there is no mag in the rifle and the bolt is locked back, all AR's will release the bolt if a sharp enough force or bump is applied along the bore axis.

Guys ,im not asking what accessories you have on your rifle or suggestions for what to put on mine.IM asking what modifications i can make to the rifle with simple hand tools, such as trigger work(like tiriaq suggested).let me repeat, nothing i need to buy, unless its a tool to make the mods

Not sure what you're really after here. What else is free on a gun other than doing your own trigger work?

You could paint it I guess...

If you've been in the Forces for awhile, you should know that there's not much to be "modded" on an AR that doesn't involve buying parts. If it works, then why mess with it?

Tuning the gas ports or converting it into a piston system can cost you up to 400 bux in parts.

But it is a great mod on an AR.

Haven't heard or read too much about "adjusting" the factory parts. I hope someone pipe's up with something.

That would make a great afternoon project.
