Norinco lever shotgun

I was looking for one a while back. Never did get one , they can be hard to find. The people who have them wont part with them. Shooters Choice has a Rossi s/s coach gun for sale under the used guns. They say has some work done on it for cowboy shooting. They may have polished it so the hulls will fall out easy and the springs lighten on the hammers. I use one in cowboy shooting and it is pain in the ass when hulls won"t fall out on there own and set the hammers when the clock is ticking. My to do list. Not to side track but the s/s can be fun. age
It pretty much what the name implies. Shooting the style of guns used in the Cowboy era, looks pretty damn fun.
I shoot CAS and I have a Norinco lever - but I don't use it for competition.
These are not the same as the 2-shell loading models that are sold in the US. The Norc's are far slower than a SxS or a pump, and without modifications, the Norincos are UNSAFE, as they will fire out of battery - That is you can fire them before the lever is closed. Not a fun situation.
My local guy bought and sold a bunch from Marstar. After a bad experience with mine, he recalled all the other ones and found they too were unsafe. He corrected the problem, with about an hour or so per gun, but Marstar and Norinco refused to compensate him.
If you have one of these shotguns, shoot them for fun - not for competition, but be sure that the lever is totally closed before you go near the trigger!!!
OR, bring it to a competent smith and he can correct the problem.

I won one at the 2006 Canadian Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting. Door prize, not for skill. You have to use Winchester AA's in them or they won't eject properly. The stock on mine is a tad too long which makes for a long reach when levering however, it works great. My main match shot gun is a slicked up Norinco sxs coach gun with hammers. I call it my Doc Holliday gun.

That's quick draw shooting, and while it is a parrallel to Cowboy Action, ultimately it is a totally diferent sport.
Also, with quick draw they are shooting black powder blanks or wax bullets.
DON'T TRY IT WITH REAL BULLETS!!! UNLESS YOU WANT A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. You'll either shoot yourself in the leg during the draw, or send bullets where you don't want them to go - ie over a burm.
True cowboy action shooting is similar to IPSC or 3-gun, except we use 1800's style of guns and we dress up in period costume like we did when we were kids.
At the least you need a cowboy hat, jeans and boots, but some of us really get carried away with the period correct theme.
You also need 2 single action pistols, a lever gun in a pistol calibre, and either a lever, SxS, or hammer-pump shotgun. And of course the leather to go along with everything.
Oh, I forgot, you need to pick an alias.
Find yourself a local match and come out and watch. If you're serious, most clubs will allow you to use other people's guns and equipment to try it out, and to get started.
It's the most fun you can have on a summer day!!

I've had one of the Norinco lever shotguns.
Avoid them.
Fast cycling with no shells loaded resulted in the mechanism being jammed to bad that I had to disassemble it to function again. Smoothing the action parts and extensive tweaking fixied the problem, but examination of mine and one other sample leads me to believe that the machining on these guns is too crude for reliability in such a delicately balanced mechanism.
Avoid them.

I bought one about two months ago and have not fired it. ( not for sale though sorry). The Nutter I bought it from used it for CAS and did not like it, said it was unsafe for that type of shooting. apparently if you don't close the lever completly it can still fire, and I would imagine shooting a lever that fast could allow this to happen. Good luck finding one took me almost two years as they go pretty fast on the nuts and i missed a couple by an e-mail or two.

Doc Rowlands Guns of the West in New Brunswick has the Armi Sport made in Italy version.They seem to be of better quality than the Norcs but they have a stiff price as well $1800 for the regular version.You can also get one with a 28 inch barrel if you like.These have case colored frames or chromed depending on what you want
