Norinco M-14 worth it?

The M14 is a great deal for what it is, the best bargain on a full-powered semi-auto rifle of decent quality.

But frankly, if you want a good hunting/plinking/informal target rifle, you should really look at a Stevens 200.
Cheaper, easier to scope and pretty accurate right out of the box.

I havn't had the opertuninity to fire my norc yet, though I would like to mention that I am rather impressed with the fit and finish considering it comes from China.

As someone who simply cannot leave anything in it's orginal form, the norc is great. There is some nice play around work to get them to operate better. Pretty hard to beat the price if you think about the fact that you are getting a combat grade rifle.

Seems you're in the Bay, too... what shop is the M-14 at?

I have an M-14 and an SKS, the SKS sees more action because ammo is cheaper, but I like my M-14 better. It's just built better and handles better. Once you get a replacement stock for the M-14, the cheap feel of the Chu-Wood is long forgotten.

My advice to you is to sell off one or two of your guns and buy a reloading kit. I bought a Lee 50th anniversary kit when I was in Buffalo this year for about $120 (with .308 dies), it will let you shoot a fair deal more for the same price you're currently spending on factory pills.

Also, Crappy Tire, Wal Mart, and Lefebvre's are bad sources for ammo.... way too expensive. All I buy up here is .22LR. The next time you head south, stop in at Epps, Bass Pro, or Al Simmons in Hamilton and pick up some UMC, American Eagle, or Sellier & Bellot for cheap. I bought a bunch of UMC for $12.50 last year and I'm still using it... great for plinking.

Anyways, if you aren't heading south any time soon, and you do wind up getting that M-14, let me know. I'm down there a fair bit to visit friends and family, and I don't mind doing an ammo run. Feel free to PM me.

Buying guns from China will make you suffer from low self esteem when confronted with real men with real guns made in the U.S.

The united states is not the end all of firearms manufactures. Everything they build seems to be declining in quality while the Chinese are making steps to improve their quality.

You could bring up the different major issues that have come up with Chinese imports, but these situations will force higher levels of quality control if they do not wish to scare off their customer base.

I am sorry but that is the funniest thing I have read in a while.

Dimitri

I would say that over the last 20 years the quality of Chinese products have increased. I am not personally a supporter of Chinese products for the most part, but I can admit they have made improvements. I do like the norc though!
