Hey anybody have any info on the Buttplate on the M-305... it swings out and up and stops just past 90 degrees. What is the funciton of this feature and is this typical of these rifles?
Thanx for any info.

Yeah thanx guys ... but is it sposed to go past 90 degres when it swings out???

I have seen a few stop at 90 degrees, and some to maybe 100 or 110 degrees..............depends on the condition of the butt plate.

Most of the ones I have owned/seen stop just past 90 degrees.

I found having the buttplate swung up helped in the offhand position............

SKBY.

the chinese buttplates seem beefier, but they function and fit the same as a new condition usgi buttplate. With slight modification to the stock the chinese buttplate assembly fits right on to any usgi stock i have mated them with. a minor releif must be made under the "hatch" and you have to make up a bolt and nut to replace the top buttplate screw.

the Norinco M14/305 in .308 Winchester, no problem using them for hunting? ive heard you can and that you cant.:p

and...how are they for accuracy, and function? i really dig the look of them, even just to buy to have one.

It's a semi auto, non restricted rifle. Hunt away...

But get the head spaces checked out. Most of the Norinco M-14s say .308 on them but the gauges will say it's no go for .308 but a go for 7.62x51

there are tonnes of guys on this site hunting with thier norc m14s rifles. Mine is being built right now for that exact purpose. I will use it to hunt deer, moose, elk, and black bear.

When hunting with a scoped M305, I have come to the conclusion that a 3 point sling is pretty much a necessity. It's because the effing thing is heavy.

It's a lucky coincidence that the fold down buttplate helps hold the stock part of the 3 point in place. It's some weird, karma thing where a old school design and new school accessories mesh perfectly.

As an aside, I took a bull moose with my M305 this year.

back in the day, it was common to use the m60 sling and rig it fore and aft , just like the 60- just above the hips- my folder has the sling swivels on the side for the same reason- however if you want to rig the sling to assist your shooting, that's a different story

+1 Very heavy for hunting.

It's an awesome rifle. No regreats...

I'm torn between the Norinco and a BAR light stalker. The BAR is obviously lighter and to tell you the truth, it's the sober choice. Afaik it's at least as accurate as the m14s

ive been PM'd a whack of info. very appreciated. my biggest concern is that i wanted this as a fun gun, and want to buy it as a 308, not as a possible oooops i have a 7.62x51 now:p
