Norinco M-93 Woodsman .22 Pistol

I've got mine yesterday. Stripped it down, cleaned, put back together - could hardly install the plastic grips back - they would not fit right! I also noticed that the left grip pushes against the spring part of the side plate and because of that the safety was VERY tight.
I had to dremel the grips to fix those issues.

Took mine out again yesterday and put 220 rounds through it. I had 6 stove pipes and about 15 fail to fire from light firing pin strikes. I am thinking of sending it back.
Am I missing something or do I just have a dud? I have tried 4 or 5 different kinds of ammo and cleaned the thing religiously when I received it.
Think Marstar will exchange it?

Before you do send your M93 to Marstar back...
When ppl say it's feed everything...just skip this part...it won't.
This gun has extreme allergy to anything with Remington brand on it, most of Winchester ammo wont' function in this gun properly as well.
The best ammo for it is Blazer CCI bulk, anything CCI, Federal Champion and any other Federal normal and hi velocity ammo and American Eagle.
If you tried that ammo and still the same and you have only one mag, there is might be a problem with your mag, they are very easy to damage when it's loaded, mag lips are easy to bend on M93 mags. If you have second mag and tried above recommended ammo and the problem still exist, then yes... there is a problem with your pistol.
And yes, make sure if you use strong cleaner/de-greaser chemicals not to get to plastic mags followers and grips cuz it will melt it.
I had one of the norinco's and it was good given the price. One time though I took it to the range with my girlfriend and it literally fell apart in her hands. I gathered up all the parts and was not able to put it together easily! Here is a video off youtube that helped me out huge! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ivOA7xkQc4 I cannot remember if the video shows it but using a straw to hold and compress the slide spring was the only way I could get it back together. All in all though for the price it was a good little gun. I have since sold it but I remember my only real dislike was the slide release was on the wrong side or maybe it was the safety that was on the wrong side. Either way it was fun.
i had one that i got new in a trade a few years ago. Everyone is right, it can be very picky on ammo. I also found that the mags were not of very high quality and worked best if you only loaded 8 rounds. Even with ammo it liked, i would still get light strikes. Needless to say it went in another trade.
But a definately a good gun for the money,,, Buts most norc's are. If you have a little bit more to spend i would go in another direction.

I have tried a few different types of Federal and American Eagle as well and no Remington or Winchester yet, but all seem to give similar results. I have 3 mags and rotated them with the different ammo because I was thinking the same thing that maybe the problem was with the mags, but they all seemed to work similarily. I might try another bout of degreasing and see if that helps and if not it is going back.

I really admire your positive outlook, have you bothered to read out written warranty policy ?
It means what it says, it has been the best warranty on the Canadian market for over 25 years....

I just wanted to say that I communicated with John and he told me to get ahold of their gunsmith Frank. I did and after talking to Frank he suggestd I send it back. I was given a return/repair number and off it went! 
The whole process only took about 5 minutes and was very easy and painless. Thanks John for the help and I am looking forward to getting my M-93 back to go shooting!

CCI Velocitors worked great in mine. I generally only shoot plated HP with mine, it doesn't seem to like lead. Federal blue box are my staple for this pistol.
IanC, going back to your 4 inches low issue. You may want to give it another go but this time try it single handed "bullseye" style with your body sideways to the target like the old time shooters. The lesser amount of support from the one hand only and esepcially when held with a firm but not heavy grip likely will allow the gun to kick up that little bit more before the bullet leaves the muzzle. You may find that it shoots much closer to your point of aim then.
After all, the design comes from the days when bullseye shooting was done one handed. LIkely the sights were faithfully copied from such a gun.
Also, I don't know if the recoil spring will let the gun cycle with them but if you can find some standard velocity rounds give those a try as well. Again the slower speed will mean the bullet leaves the barrel that little bit later and that'll raise the impact point.
I'm not suggesting that you don't tune the sights for the far more normally available high velocity ammo and two hand hold. Just that it may be fun to try out these ideas to see if the sights turn out to be set for a different style and ammo than we normally use these days.

Just got my gun back today and I am pumped to take it out to the range on Saturday and get a few hundred rounds through it!

Just had to add that there was a problem with the firing pin and tolerances. Marstar fixed it and sent it back very promtly. They even refunded me for the shipping to send it to them!!

I was happy with the 2 M-93s I purchased a while back. They were accurate, reliable and looked nice for what I paid. Too bad I find .22lr pistols so boring. I am thinking of buying another just to have if I ever get the urge to plink.
