Norinco M4 CQ5.56 Reliability - You Decide

We have a 5 round mag limit for semi auto rifles because the 14 women that were killed in 1989 could have been saved if that twit (I refuse to repeat his name) would have had to change mags more often. (Make sure you read the sarcasm in that sentence before you write in and flame me)
As a note, he had tried to convert his mini-14 to full auto and only managed to make it a straight pull bolt action. Each time he fired he had to manually pull back the cocking handle, eject a live round, and allow the rifle to load. He had a 30 round mag that he changed only once and left 13 or so live rounds littering the hallway. The police, waited outside for about 45 minutes untill they were sure that all of the shooting had stopped before they went in to find the bodies, the wounded and the dead twit. That sir, is why we have a mag restriction.

I didn't know mag restrictions happened b/c of this, but what I didn't know too was the police just waited outside until the shooting stopped and his semi auto functioned as a bolt action? DAMMIT on both accounts!

I said it once and I'll say it again. I don't understand our laws.

So evil looking AR15 gets 10 rounds per mag but my SKS has to be pinned to 5 rounds? Huh? Mind you, if I had to choose between AR15 or SKS... AR15 wins hands down. lol!

Except that manually operated firearms have no mag limit... Irony.

So evil looking AR15 gets 10 rounds per mag but my SKS has to be pinned to 5 rounds? WTF?

Only thanks to a loophole. The 10 round mags are for the LAR-15 pistol. It just happens to be legal to use the LAR-15 mags in a rifle thanks to the way the law was written.

Not just a bolt action, but a bloody waistfull one as well. Remember, the gun reloaded each time he shot just did not recock the hammer, or rather the hammer simply followed the bolt forward. He had to eject a live round onto the floor for every round he fired!!

I see... That explains the live rounds on the floor. Doh!

I'm going to give up on thinking why we have these stupid laws... 5 rounds, 10 rounds... ban this, but not that. I guess be thankful AR15 is still restricted here. IMO, AR15 and AK47 are essentially brothers from another mother.

The AR was not prohibited because the DCRA made the case that it was regularly used in competition, which it was and still is. The Swiss shooters tried get their rifles exempted from prohibition, but were unsuccessful.
The botched conversion story has been widely repeated. Is there any evidence confirming its veracity?
As far as pistol magazines in carbines go, another clause was not incorporated in the law limiting semi auto rifles to a maximum capacity of 5 rounds. Could have happened, could still happen.
5/30s make a dandy rest when shooting prone, or when position shooting.

The conversion "Story" was part of the court docs and part of the coroners official report and findings. The question is not why are certian rifles not restricted but rather why is an AR-15. I remember killing gophers with mine!!

Scott

Is the conversion story in the Coroner's report? A recent thread quoted from the report and there was no mention of a conversion attempt. Apparently the report is available online.

I just picked up my norc cq from the post office and went straight to the range. I had it out along with the stag. aside from a few minor cosmetic machining marks, it shoots like a hot damn. Straight out of the box, without cleaning, I put in 200 rounds 62gn through it. lubed the bcg with a bit of clp, then another 100 rds. Then put in close to 500 rds of 22lr subsonic through the ciener, then cleaned it with 20 rounds of 55 wwb. With a minor adjustment on the rear sight, POA, POI was where I wanted it to be at the 25/50/75/100 yard line. This is just with irons no mounted optic.

The adjustable stock is a little tight, but became easier to handle the more aggressive I got with it. Like a japanese school girl.

I have an old 3pt sling that I mounted to the fsb and the stock loop hole...meh.
will have to get a set of quads, and a qd sling and a 2 pt one.

For optics, I don't know, perhaps a 551 + magnifier.. but I hate batteries.
I'm also going to try to get rid of the ambi crap. gets in the way. And switch the handle grip for something that's more comfortable.

Oh and the mags I used were a combo of lar10's, the 2x factory 5/30s, a few american mfg 5/30's, and for the 22 the bdm's.

I was in the same position. I absolutely love the EoTech, but hated the battery issue. I ended up going with the Trijicon RX30. The fibre optic and tritium combo is able to take care of itself. The drowning out of the dot when shooting from under cover to a sunny target was not bad at all (unlike the MEPRO sight included with the Tavor). I think the RX30 is an ideal option.

Gee, something's wrong here - another person with no issues.

C'mon tell the truth; ALL Chinese firearms are crap, they don't work and when they do they can't hit sh*t, and if they can they're part of a Secret Chi-com plan to build super carriers in Burrard Inlet. There, Hatman doesn't have to say it. ;)

I for one, am quite enthused to be shooting something manuf from the motherland. Even though I already have a norc1911. Ppl really should stop ranting about the crap that comes from China. If they can pioneer the gun powder and the flame thrower, I'm sure they make ok guns too.
