Norinco M4 Last Shot

A quick way to tell would be try it with another make of magazine. If it locks back then it is the magazine if not then there is another issue. I think its the mag(s) tho.
 
My Norinco M4 is doing the exact same thing. I have tried may different magazines with no success. I gave the rifle a good cleaning and made sure to lube everything up. I am starting to wonder if the buffer spring is to heavy. I was shooting Remmington UMC .223

Maybe the rifle is short-stroking??

It is possible that the bolt carrier could be going back far enough to chamber the next round but not back far enough to engage the bolt hold-open.

You may want to try different mags, different ammo, or check the hold open to see if it's damaged in some way.
 
I had a crapload of problems with my Norc M4 mags that shipped with the rifle. They look cool, being all 30 round size and all, but the spring in there is crappy and the plastic plate under the cartridges doesn't stay level, causing rounds to be driven into the side of the mag by the bolt as it tries to strip off a cartridge after firing.

I am about to place an order for some LAR-15 mags from Questar. I thought I noticed a locking problem with my bolt as well, but I think its really just the mags, it seems to be affecting the whole operation and cycling of the firearm. Also, the sling sucked, if anyone has any recommendations for an excellent AR sling i'm all ears!
 
I am having the same problem I tried the mags it cam with and I have 2 p mags the same thing it does not stay open when emptied. Did anybody come up with a solution
 
Yeah mine does the same thing...Norc mags or PMAGs...I think the buffer spring it comes with is too strong. I'm going to cut a few coils off it tomorrow and see what happens. It's a shame though because otherwise, the gun is as accurate as you can expect for an entry level AR and shoots and cycles perfectly.

OK, so cutting the spring didn't work...now I need a new spring :)

So I figured out that if I hold the mag catch down with my thumb, it will hold open so the gun is cycling all the way back. For some reason, it's just not catching. Any ideas?
 
A lot of problems with these Norincos. Westerners must know something about building AR's the Chinese can't figure out while Canadian consumers are used as paying test rats for them.

Are the Chinese magazines at least any good for scrap metal, or would they get flagged at the scrapyard?
 
I must be lucky, as my M4 has performed flawlessly. Mags are fine, trigger is good, holds open, shoots accurately, and no jams.

It is one of the new batch, however.

Man, I was waiting for someone like you to chime in...every single Norinco thread has one of you Chinese bashers in it.

There are not "a lot of problems"...the ONLY problem I am hearing about is the bolt not staying open on the last round. If you can find posts or links to all the other "lots of problems", feel free to share...
