Norinco M4 malfunction

Put a BAD on my Norc and it caused the bolt to hold open every now and then while firing. Was very irritating but it loosened on the lever and the problem went away.

Now there is a hint of looseness and it seems to run just fine.

Maybe something was being tweaked when the item was tightened up. Who knows? I am happy with this part and so far, have had no failures.

Some folks love to make the situation more complex than it is. Let's examine the timeline:

Gun functions flawlessly, parts are added, gun doesn't work. Rather than apply Occam's razor and go for the simplest solution, the OP cleans the gun and relubes it. And it still doesn't work. Yet he never takes the parts off which were installed just before the gun stopped running.

Take the Magpul parts off one at a time and you'll probably find the cause. My money's on the BAD lever.

Ditto (and the BAD lever is also less work to remove than the ASAP). It's rare - but I have seen one or two BAD levers that were slightly out-of-spec right from the manufacturer. I'm not trying to suggest that this could be the problem; only that it could be a contributing factor.

you have a picture of it mounted on the firearm? how much was shipping to Canada?

I don`t remember the price shipped up here.

Maybe B.A.D is a bad idea itself to start with.

I have no practical experience with the BAD lever, but from handling an AR that had one, I just thought it was a bad idea.

So much opportunity for it to get broken or caught on something and end up being a hassle. Simple buttons and muscle memory for the win.

Looks like a better solution to me "Simple buttons and muscle memory for the win." +1

I had one of those on my Norc before I sold it, liked it so much I kept it :) when I sold the Norc...and its functioned flawlessly. The nice part is it makes locking the bolt back manually a sinch, which comes in handy for shooting sports, safety flags etc.

Well went to the range today, the B.A.D lever came off and the problem went away. It was definitely the B.A.D lever. I’m not sure if I’m going to try the Phase5 or not, I really like to have the controls on the right side of the rifle, but I’m also thinking of selling the Norc to get a XCR, so we’ll see. Thank for the help, I hope this thread can help someone else before they buy the B.A.D lever for a Norc.

From a "working gun" stand point I'd agree. I would foresee problems for guys that got used to the lever suddenly having to use someone else's rifle in life or death situations.

Stick to what works. Muscle memory and common equipment.

For the range only fellas, if it turns you on buy it. Support the economy and the Canadian Small Arms Propegation Movement (lol).

I'm with Petrock. I am a total newbie with the AR thing but I am just going to go with right hand squeeze trigger and drop mags. Left hand insert mag and close bolt. I get screwed up even doing that as I proved at the CQB yesterday.

I plan to keep it simple and practice. The over sized bolt hold open paddle seems promising though I must say. We will see.

Been using it for 4 years now and it takes NO getting use to. Just reach for same area of bolt hold open latch as before but now it is much larger.

You're not the first and you're not the last. Happens on more than just Norinco lowers. People really need to ask themselves if the BAD is really necessary in the first place, and if the benefits are worth risking impeding the function of their firearm.

Give these guys a break. If you paid double for something and found out the cheap one was just as good, you'd spend a lot of time running the cheap one down too.;):p
