I recently purchased an NP-29 for IPSC, and had some questions about modifications I can make that will improve the pistol, and be cost effective. I'm not worried about being moved into another class due to the mods, just looking to do some cheap modifications to improve my performance...I don't really care how I do against others at this point.
I'm sure someone will chime in with it wasn't the best choice for action shooting, and I'd agree, but I'll go out on a limb and say for money spent on the gun, accessories, and part availability nothing else is even close. I'm blown away by the quality of this gun for what I spent on it. The finish is pretty good, I was expecting to have to take the sharp edges off, but it appears to be unnecessary. It shot 115gr S&B FMJ just a hair left of point of aim, and more than accurate enough for my purpose/skill. I think this rates really high on my best buy list regardless of where it got made.
Who out there is shooting a 1911 in IPSC, and what would you suggest for my first improvements. My only complaint at the moment is the magwell is a bit hard to hit cleanly. It's the only place I've taken my stone to just to round the edges a wee bit. Also any recommendations on 9mm magazines that will be better suited to dropping on hard surfaces, and an inexpensive adjustable sight set. Finally what is the best place on this side of the border for parts. I know Brownell's is unbeatable, but I have my reasons for dealing with Canadian operations.
