Norinco NP-40 'CZ-85B type' .40 S&W

I've had one for 6 or so years. I like it except that the mag kept falling out. I found a bunch of mags at a gun show that work though.

I've had one for about a year. I think it was worth the money, but the norc mags suck. They won't hold 10 rounds, or at least they don't fit in the gun with 10 rounds.I just got a CZ mag at WSS that fits, hope to shoot it tommorrow(1st time with that mag).
The main slide/return spring seems very heavy making it fairly hard to pull back(not a girl friendly). It seems to be accurate enough, and the only feeding problems I've had seem to be down to the flat nosed hollow points I'm using. I have a bunch of those loaded at different seating depths to try.
I expect that round nose bullets would solve that.
I have hogue wraparound grips on it and I do like the pistol.
My 2 cents-buy one, but don't get spare norc mags. The CZ mags are about $50, and worth it.

My cat has a Norinco NZ-85B in 9mm. It is an excellent pistol; however, it had a number of sharp edges and the trigger pull was crappy.

The original magazine was also horrible.

These are good guns; however, it needed tuning and refinishing.

Thanks guys, I will be using this as protection in the bush. The bigest predator being a Black Bear. I like the .40 for the 10 rounds and should be enough to deter any predators. I'm also considering the High Point .40 , I've used hand guns before, i'm only going to be new at owning one :)

Here's the list I've tried:

9mm glock
44 mag s.w.
41 mag
357 mag
and a couple or 22's

there's more to it then just that, there is certain criteria to carry in the bush. And you must get a permit for the bush (i'm hoping i can get one). there's also a handgun wilderness training course that you have to take as well. I'm still new to this and am learning all there is about it.

Listen up and DBAS. My cat's gun for bears is Ruger Convertable New Model Blackhawk in .45 ACP/ .45 Colt.

A .45 Colt round loaded with 320 grain bullets will stop anything that walks, creeps or crawls.

Fluffy's revolver has walrus ivory grips:

Why dont you carry a 8.5" DA shotgun with a couple rounds of slugs in it???

Then you dont have to try to get any permit, just load it up and go.

The point of using a handgun is weight and size. I wouldn't be posting this thread if I wanted a shotgun. Thanks though f:P:

good idea though if i can't get a permit

That is a Gorgeous gun. Why .45 colt over .44 magnum though if your in Bear country? Alot easier to control?

A .45 Colt can be had with heavier bullets. You can really load the .45 Colt up to .44 Magnum levels in a Ruger Blackhawk.

But a 320 grain .45 Colt bullet loaded to about 900 fps will shoot through both sides of a bear.

Your obviuosly a man who know what he wants,

Check your local walmart gun clerk they are very helpfull, and could help you with the course to get your permit to carry.

I am not sure about you mod of transportation, however

Horse back = BFR 45/70 big bang, light weight, easy recoil.

quad = shotgun, I would horizontally mount a koplin gun case and cut the end off, you could point your quad towards the bear a shoot from the case.

on foot = glock 10mm VERY powerful and light, plus it won't be detected in an airport metal detector (because it is plastic)

Thoughs would be my choices, :dancingbanana:

So do you actually have a Wilderness ATC or do you think that you will somehow be getting one? I assume you work a job that the CFC would consider needing of a permit. Not just anyone can get one of these.

Also, if you want a good bear defence handgun, go for a .45 colt or .44 mag revolver. Dont play around with this .40 S&W crap. This is bear defence, not CCW people defence. A .40 S&W is not an adequate bear defence cartridge.
