So who's got one of the norinco Sig clones? How do you like it?

How interchangeable are parts, as i hear getting parts from norinco is hard?

Would you, or have you ever used this to compete in ipsc or whatever?

Up until I bought the sig, it was my favourite pistol, well made( yes I know ) accurate, and literally put hundreds of rounds flawlessly through it..I absolutely would recommend this pistol to you... Couldn't say about longevity for competition, but great budget pistol..

You don't need a shadow to compete in IPSC; Whatever works for you. It's all about having fun :)

As far as I know, a good upgrade is a set of SIG replacement springs; It'll improve the gun in general especially the trigger pull.

Edit: I'm pretty sure it came with a hammerspring but it doesnt (anymore?)

After posting here I did some research and it seems like the typical norinco quality - tolerances and quality seems to vary from gun to gun.

One thing that stood out is the norinco sights are a bugger to move and have a bigger dovetail so real Sig sights don't fit without using jb weld or something of the like?

I did my Black Badge with the NP22 and shot my first qualifier with it. Comparing its trigger to a CZ was like wow why did I even... So yea you can participate but there are so many better guns.

For inexpensive but better quality, here are a few suggestions....I take it you want a 9mm.

SAM 1911 $410

Ruger SR9 $450
Again, not sure who has in stock at this time.

I got my Girsan from SFRC but they are out at the moment. SR from Frontier but also out. P&D has them both for a little more but still reasonable...shop around as price varies.

You can compete and do well in Production Division with just about any gun that you like to shoot assuming you have the skills. Based on that, the Sig is a good platform. Personally I wouldn't go for the norinco though, not because you can't be competitive but because I don't personally believe they are as good of quality. Further more, it is not the gun that will cost you the most money in the long run, it is the ammunition. The amount you end up spending on the pistol will pale in compression to the amount you will end up spending on ammunition. Go with something you are comfortable shooting and can shoot well but buy something that is a bit higher quality. I don't mean to sound like a #### but if you can't afford a slightly more expensive gun such as a Sig, CZ or even a Glock then this is probably not a good sport to be getting into.

If I had a dollar for every time someone here said I'll spend more on ammo then I will on the gun I could probably afford a glock by now...

I know ammo is the bigger cost in the long run but that could be said of a $2000 gun too. And Im not about to get one of them. I dont plan to compete all the time. I have neither the money nor the time right now. But I still want to be able to go join the fun once and a while. I also need a range membership still so I have to add that cost too so thats another $150+ I need to spend right out the gates. Plus getting my black badge and whatever else I need to do...

And so Im trying to figure out what is the best bang for my buck for an entry-level gun and there are only a few options for a sub-$500 gun and a sub-$400 is even harder to come by. In fact this is the cheapest gun I can think of (by at least $100) that is acceptable for production class in ISPC. Others close in price seem to be Grand Power k100 Girsan Regard Walther PPX Ruger SR9 or a used M&P

Besides it'll be my first handgun so I wont know what Im missing with something better. lol Its still a step up for a Tokarev right?

I'd go for the Grand Power, PPX or SR9 off that list long before I ever bothered with an NP22.

The Norinco CZ knockoff is a better gun, and the 1911s in .45 are also done pretty well in terms of function, but you don't want to look at .45 obviously.

If you shoot two matches, you'll have covered the spread between an NP22 and a Glock.

Also consider this: if you want to compete, you'll need magazines. The Norinco mags are garbage, so you'll be out the cost of two mags right off the bat. And the Sig mags don't necessarily work well in the Norinco, which incidentally should be a massive red flag: it means the frame is not dimensioned correctly. And it means replacement mags may be just as lousy as the ones it came with.

If you want a steel TDA gun that's not expensive and the rough DA pull of an NP22 didn't seem like a deal breaker, look at the Bersa Thunder 9 Pro from Tactical Imports. The DA pull is heavy, but the reset is very nice, and the SA pull is short and crisp. The DA pull can probably be worked out with some effort.

And it's a very accurate pistol, essentially a Walther P88. It's about the only "cheap" steel pistol I'd really recommend.

But if you're not specifically interested in a metal gun, look for a used SR9/9e from IRG, or maybe an SD9 if IPSC is allowing those. Both under $400, both real guns, not gun-shaped objects partially milled out of unpredictable steel and/or iron by chinese pseudo-engineers who once measured up a P226 with a pair of equally made-in-china calipers.
