Norinco NP29 Extractor Issues

Recently bought a used Norinco NP 29 that had very little use on it. The seller advised me that it had some extraction issues, and I figured it was probably just an issue with the extractor tension. So I finally got to try the gun out today and it was very apparent that there was something seriously wrong with the extractor . It was constant FTE and double feeds. I got the gun home and checked online on how to check the tension on the extractor. I followed the advice on the Wilson Combat and the RECOILTV YouTube channels on how to check and adjust the tension. When I checked the fit and tension using both a snapcap and empty casing I could see that the extractor was no where near to touching and holding the round. The amount of space almost makes me think that the extractor was meant for a 45ACP cartridge.

I then tried to adjust the tension, as suggested by the two videos mentioned above, and no amount of bending seemed to do the trick. I had even bent the extractor to the point that I could barely fit it back into its channel.

I've owned a few Norinco 1911's in 45acp and never had this issues. This is my first Norc 1911 in 9mm. Just looking at the extractor from the perspective of how it would sit in the gun it doesn't even look straight. So I'm thinking it's completely out of spec and I'll have to replace it.

But has anyone else had the same or similar experience with their NP29? If so how were you able to fix it.

Cheers

I have not had that experience but here is a picture of a .45 and 9mm Norinco 1911 side by side I just took so you can compare the gaps and positions of the extractors.

9mm is on the left and .45acp is on the right, both are stock Norinco parts.

What ammo are you using? My NP29 was pretty temperamental with anything other than Blazer Brass. I've tuned the extractor and it's better with other brands now, still most reliable with BB.

That's interesting because it's Blazer Brass that I'm using. I'm going to try some other brands that I have, including some reloads to see if that makes a difference.

I had one for a short while; sold it because I had a NZ85 I liked way better; but zero feeding issues with it; all home loads from 115 gr up. good working pistol. Not sure why you are having issues.

Strip your pistol down and take just the barrel; do a "plunk-test" with your ammo; it should fit easy, all the way and spin in the chamber with little force. If not, it is either the ammo or the barrel.

the norinco extractor is not the best

if you want to be trouble free with your norinco, go out and buy a name brand extractor (in your caliber) and fit it (you tube) .... if first time... fit the nork one first then fit the name brand one

and if using reloads passing a plonk test will tell you what length your gun likes

work up loads

do not make too many the first time

Had the same problem, sent back to the importer under warranty.

From the service letter, they say they only tuned the original extractor and voila. So, maybe a gunsmith, but maybe a brand name extractor could do it and be less expensive...

It does work great now.

Looking at aftermarket extractors I now realize what my problem is. My extractor is for a 45acp. 9mm extractors don't have a "nub" at the middle point on the hook side. 45acp have the "nub" on both sides at the midway point. So only solution is buy the proper one.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
