Norinco NP34 too cheap to resist Range Test

"I went home, logged onto Tenda, and bought one for myself. $305 with tax.

6 days later I picked up and fired the first 5 shots to check the sights."

Hey, so it only took 6 days for the Transfer to be approved? Ontario!?

Hey, so it only took 6 days for the Transfer to be approved? Ontario!?

I just had a restricted transfer done in Ontario. It took a little less then 6 days. I bought the revolver last Thursday at 4pm. Yesterday the gun shop called me at 10 am and said come and pick it up. Quickest I have ever seen here in Ontario.

Last week I was shooting steel plates with a friend at the club.

Another shooter showed up with a brand new NP34 (a Norinco clone of a SIG 228 - a compact 226) He was about to try his new $269 pistol.

My buddy said "Hey. I just bought one of those too, but it has not yet been approved. Can I try it?"

So he shot it.

I used to have a NP34, but was not impressed with its accuracy. So I asked to see what they are like now.

I was impressed. The single action trigger was excellent. far beyond what any Glock could hope to be. (A low standard to exceed, I know.)

The double action trigger was atrocious. I could never compete with it in a match where I had to shoot the first shot double action.

I went home, logged onto Tenda, and bought one for myself. $305 with tax.

6 days later I picked up and fired the first 5 shots to check the sights. Good to go.

I made my usual small mods to the pistol. I painted the front sight florescent orange. I used a small file to widen the rear sight notch. My old eyes need all the help they can get.

And I placed a strip of skateboard tape on the front and back grip straps.

The fit and finish is excellent. Nothing looks or feels "cheap". Except for the grips. hard smooth plastic. Hogues are on order.

I looked in the barrel with my borescope. It is better finished than many of of my other pistols.

It does not have a magazine safety.

It comes with 2 mags, both are serial numbered to the pistol.

The magazines eject with vigor when the mag release is hit.

I suspect they dip the pistol in a vat of oil before shipping. It takes down easily and is easy to clean with a paper towel and a few squirts of brake cleaner.

If you are looking for a shooter (not a collector's piece) you get more bang for the buck with this $269 pistol than anything else on the market.

By the way, did you notice how I destroy my sensitive legal files?

Range Test

Spent an hour on the plate range. My grandson and I put 200 round through it. No problems. Hits where I aim.

My buddy shot his, too. It also shot perfectly, except the slide would not lock back. Looks like the slide stop (a stamped steel piece_ needs to be bent out a bit more so the tab hits the mag follower. Easy to do on a $269 pistol. Not so easy on a $1000 SIG.

For anyone looking for a cheap, but useful 9mm plinker pistol, this is a GREAT BUY.

I just ordered one from G4C. Can't wait to try it.

Good to hear you have a good experience with NP pistol.
Does anybody have an idea where to find repair parts for NP pistol. The firing pin on my Norinco NP 22 broke during dry firing, i googled trying to find replacement firing pin but failed. It seems that no any repair parts available in Canada. What a frustrating situation!

Sig one may work, may require a bit of fitting. Sig pattern pistols should not be dry fired; I believe that Sig says that about their own too.

Taken from SIG Sauer's FAQ:

Q: Is it safe to dry-fire my pistol?

A: It is safe to dry-fire our center fire pistols. You would want to use a snap cap or plug if extensive dry-firing is done.

What's extensive in the eyes of SIG? Once a day, 100 times a day? Typical CYA talk. You can do it, but...

Never any absolutes.

I got one of these pistols a year ago when it was on sale. It is a good pistol for the price. However the double action trigger is quite horrific. In fact by far the worst double action trigger I have ever seen.

Does it use the new style Sig mainspring assembly with the plastic spring seat? If so I believe Brownells sells spring kis with weights as low as 17 pounds. If it's the old style Sig mainspring system I don't know if lighter weight replacement mainsprings are available but I think they can be retrofitted with the new style. That should significantly improve the DA trigger pull.

Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

Ordered mine last Monday and came today. 7 days including the weekend. Would have been here sooner if CP worked all weekend. Only downside was they left it between my doors! Label clearly says SIGNATURE and DO NOT SAFE DROP!!!

The American government is also based on global domination and colonialism. I bet most of these anti Chinese preachers in this thread have no problems about buying Smith & Wesson.

Yea all these anti chinese preachers like to sneak diss on a forum but wouldn't say or do anything in real life. We're Canadians, not Americans guys. Put down the American propaganda for a sec and chill. I'm sure you have friends, neighbors, co-workers that are chinese that are totally cool and you wouldn't say half the stuff you say here out loud to them so stop. Y'all talking about trump this and trump that when we should be tackling the issues on our front yard aka the Liberal party.

We have 2 Canadians incarcerated in China with death sentences due to Chinese politics. The problem isn't you and I buying a Norinco, it is that our governments have been supporting China forever knowing full well that they are nothing more than a prison state. Our stores are full of China and the question is why?

just to be clear..and in case YOU missed it ... people here dissing Norinco and frowning on purchasing Chinese made products..... aren't in any way shape or form refering to Chinese Canadians...... They don't work and live in communist china last we all checked.
This isn't a racial themed thread so why take us there with this politico crap?
I only own one chinese firearm.... an SKS that has been in canada since the early 90's when we could rock out with whatever magazine size we felt like. These days I would like to buy more canadian or american made simply because I know if I make that a practice in my home and life, I am paying someone's living wage in a free nation and not supporting the communist regime.

Isn't it true that the only money "the Chinese" are going to see from this purchase is whatever they already pocketed when Tenda or anyone else buys the gun for their stores inventory?

They do not get any of the $300 I give the Canadian dealer, that goes towards paying the Canadian staff that work there.

I just finished reading this thread, interesting indeed I thought, might be an ok purchase for a steel gun as I'm basically a striker fired polymer guy. Happened to open the EE and saw one just listed for a really excellent price,,,,I guess I own a steel hammer fired gun now lol :)

Actually they're steel slide and alloy frame. The 1911s however, are all steel and legendary for the superior metallurgy.
