Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

thanks :) got help from my club guys to make me pillars and then, after some major dremmel work and almost a pound of devcon later - we have a beautiful, heavy .22 varmint rifle....heavy like a tank :), but no recoil at all.... :) (I know, I know.... .22 has no recoil) :)

the rifle is still used with magazines, but due to construstion (small distase between the mag well and the front action screw), its a PITA to remove the mag, but doable. Still thinking how to improve it, even have an idea of some kind of a magpull ;)

Well I finally finished the NS522. I started out just wanting to remove the dent in the stock by the bolt handle. The gun was dented when I received it.
I got carried away, but it gave me something to do while being off over the holiday season.
Free floated, pillar bedded, removed rear swivel stud, moved front swivel stud.
Getting the original finish off was a total pita! Three coats of Krylon.
Need to get rid of the horrible recoil pad next.
Many other photos of the process if anyone is interested.

Well, thank you for your kind words, but with builds like yours, I am truly in good company and surrounded by greatness.

Keep up the updates everyone! I may have to get another and black rifle it out.

Since I don't want to hijack this thread (I love all the cool stuff going on in here) - I've started a new thread describing my NS522 related woe. If anyone will be able to help, I'm sure it'll be you guys. TIA!

Can someone recommend me scope rings that will fit this rifle. I have a scope with a 40mm objective lens I would like to put on this rifle. I am new to precision shooting and not really familiar with weaver mounts. Just want something that works without having to try out different rings.

Thanks in advance.

This rifle doesn't have a weaver rail. It's a 3/8 dovetail.

I'm using Hawke Match mount rings, medium height.

My scope is 44mm and it's a perfect fit. It would be still OK in low rings, but the cheek weld dictates medium for me.

Check some stores specializing in air rifles, it's a popular size for the rail, and they usually have a selection of good quality rings that would fit.

I know that dlairgun.com carries the rings I have and they are in Vancouver. These rings are available both in 1" and 30mm and also both for dovetail and weaver, so make sure to order the correct set.

Amazon carries UTG (Leapers) rings, that are cheaper, and still relatively decent.

Folk's, I am having a problem and looking for some help. I am having problems with seating the magazine it does not seem to go fully in and lock? Has anybody else had this issue?

It is common for this rifle to not want to seat a mag with the bolt closed. If this is not the problem, then I would recommend you follow my pics to strip and clean your mag and spend some time on the mag well area.

I am assuming you have not done any mods/or thorough cleaning?

I had cleaned and I stripped and cleaned it throughly again noticed then that one locked and the second didn't I looked closer and measured the one that did lock compared to the one that didn't and found it was higher therefore not allowing it to go high enough to lock in . A little filing and good to go Thanks for responding Father you are the reason I ordered the NS 522 to tinker with after seeing yours...

Aw shucks!

Im glad you figured it out and thanks for posting your fix. This sort of thing adds to the value of this thread as an online resource.
