Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

3/8 Dovetail medium height & a Bushnell Banner Dusk to Dawn 4-12x40AO

That's going to be my setup!

Cheers
Jay

The medium height rings is what I thought would work as well. The only thing I'm considering different is to get at least a 24 power scope to help my tired eyes. I have a 3x9 Bushnell on my Ruger and its a strain to see at 100 yards nowadays.

Nikko Stirling Nighteater 4-16x44 with a one piece mount. Hopefully will not complicate case ejection.

Candocad.

Ive never heard of Nikko before this, but they do look ok, its a brand I'll do some looking into as they seem to have a couple models that would suit the task.

This is the new finish on the stock.

That looks beautiful. Excellent job. I can't wait to get my hands on mine, I'll be doing something similar.

I wish they had put a plastic butt plate on these instead of the "recoil" pad. I think that would have helped with the appearance.I might change mine out when I get around to redoing the stock.
Scott...

Did you use "stripper" on it before the sanding? I'm at this point now. I free floated the barrel and pillar and bedded. Was thinking about a camo paint but I like wood way better. Yours looks great.
Thank you. To be honest with you, I didn't even have to sand too much. :)
The hardest part was free floating the barrel.

No, I didn't use paint stripper. I just sanded the wood. I started with 80, then 150, 300 and finished with 600 grit.

I bought one today . I read all 59 pages and couldn't help myself .
I already have too many 22's but they look like a good deal and
fun modifying for little cash . I would like a spring from "father" if
any are left , I will only be shooting targets so I want a light one .
Thanks to all the contributors who have made this a great thread .

When you get it sanded down like that,it's not too hard to epoxy in a block of wood to fill that ugly oversized bolt notch, then just use a round file to cut a notch to accommodate the bolt.Once that is hard, then you can just carry on sanding and applying the finish(I used 3 coats of epoxy, then spray painted it with rustoleum flat green)The rustoleum 'epoxy appliance paint' would probably be more durable ,but it only comes in gloss black, white or almond)
Since the wood wasn't hardwood, coating it with epoxy and painting seems like a reasonable option, and a 'new finish'is very easy to apply, just a light sanding and another shot of spray paint and it's brand new again

They have been around for many many years and they are nice scopes. I got mine from Amazon.ca for about $225 delivered. They are very popular in Australia, and they do a good variety of scopes. For a rimfire they are more than fine.

Candocad.

finally got mine cleaned up a little more tonight. Threw the bolt in. Its definitely stiff locking it down into place but nothing un bearable. That trigger is NICE.

I'll keep looking at more scope options, before I buy one. I really like the look of that refinished stock, it makes the gun look a lot nicer.

Have mine almost ready, used paint stripper and now starting sanding process. Wondering what type of epoxy used for first 3 coats?
