Beautiful job...just what I am looking for. You have some nice wood grain to your stock, after sanding off the toxic lead based paint, mine is pretty plain looking. I understand from a previous post that you said you used Gunstock and Puritane Pine wood stains (MiniWax?). Can you recall what final combination you used (# of coats of each)? What did you seal it up with gloss or semi - gloss polyutherene?
 
I've started using Watco Spray Lacquer on my gun stocks. It comes in Gloss,semi gloss and Satin(my preference). Once you get your staining finished just give the stock a good wipe with a tack rag and hang the stock up with a modified wire coat hanger and spray the finish on. I usually tape the barrel channel and receiver area that I don't want sprayed. Each coat takes 20 minutes to be dry to the touch.It took me about 2 stocks to get the amount to spray figured out but now that I know how it sprays it works awesome( try it on spare wood first to get a feel for it). I usually do 2 coats and let it dry for 3-4 hours minimum and then go over it lightly with 4/0 steel wool to take off the little pimples and to smooth the finish out before I do the last 2 coats. If you have a compressor blow all dust off before wiping down again with a tack cloth.I usually do 3-4 coats as I like a little bit of grain showing through. A few more coats will fill the grain in if desired. 1 spray can will do 2 standard gun stock.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised to see some wood grain after removing the factory finish.
I used 2 coats of Puritane Pine, 1 coat of Gunstock and again 2 coats of Puritane Pine and 1 coat of Gunstock stain (MINWAX).
The Polyurethane was Semi-Gloss and I put at least 5 coats on the stock, using 600 grit sandpaper between each new coat.
I screwed up the first attempt and had to strip the stock so it took me almost two weeks to finish.
 
Good evening, fellow fans of the 522. If you haven't noticed, there's a good bit of Norinco bashing going on in "The Anschutz, Cooper, Sako..." thread in this sub-forum. The folks over there don't think the 522 can shoot. I've tried to tell 'em, but then they do know all (haha).

The original thread was for those of us who appreciate fine firearms & not cheaply made communist Chinese copies.

my NS522 outshoots my Anshutz match 64 and my CZ 455 holds its own against the norc, most of the time (differant scopes).
not too happy about my anny, but I do like my NS522 alot.

I really do enjoy my Anschutz rifles thankyou. I realize they are not for everyone but to me & a few others they are well worth the cost & hold their value.

I think the point is more like a car analogy....
Your Lada or Yugo will get you from A to B for many years, if that's all you want out of it then absolutely spend as little as possible.
A BMW will also get you from A to B.....but it will also be more comfortable, nicer to look at, nicer to drive, give you pride in ownership, and probably get you laid at some point. Those extras are worth something to some people...and if you can afford it, why not buy better?
 
And you can look like a "Wanker" in your BMW.

I see that Cabelas has a Vortex Viper 6.5x20x 44 on sale for $399.00 until Wed. That looks like it would work out ok as well.

totally agree, my vote for sticky, of course a good thread now getting ambushed by trolls, seriously, why would you read this thread if you hate this brand of rifle???? oh well, too much time on peoples hands I guess. maybe should be a section in the forum to give them more to read, maybe call it, " I'LL TAKE GUNS OVER A G NOTE ALEX"
