Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

And you can look like a "Wanker" in your BMW.

Gladly....lol.
I have 2 of these NS522 and they are good guns. I just don't agree with the "wankers" thinking they are as good or better then Sako/Cooper rifles....that's just crazy talk...
I have a 70 year old Mossberg .22 that has a nice walnut stock, super smooth action, and it shoots as good as the NS522's.....I paid $50 for it. Should I start calling everyone fools that paid 4 TO 5 TIMES AS MUCH for the Nork rifles?
It's all relative...

I respect your opinion, but really it IS very possible for my rifle to be better. Anything is possible. I think that a blanket statement would be very incorrect about all found examples of the NS being better, but some yes, some worse.

Hey, Father, good to see you back, I apologize for my statement regarding the troll and removed it! This thread should be a sticky for sure, it contains a wealth of information on the NS522 and also shows the best of CGN members helping each other out! Have you done anything else to your 522 and did you manage to scoop up any more 522 when they were on sale!!

Anyhoo.

This thread was started by me. A regular fellow having fun modding a turd with the sole intention to give his bro in laws custom match barrelled Savage a run for its money, for far less money.

Please stop with the thread derailing.

So far the best rimfire thread I've seen in a while.

I just ordered one of these rifles after reading this thread. By the way the bolt has that Annie/Walther look to it. The hammer forged barrel though I think was the main reason I couldn't resist. I have that on my Ruger 10/22 stainless as well and it shoots exceptionally well. I planned on putting a Greenmountain on my Ruger but haven't bothered as the stock SS hammer forged barrel shoots so well. I hope the same will be true or even more so with these rifles. They look very promising. I just wish I didn't miss out on the sale.

Hello all

Well after cleaning the preservative off of the rifle, It looks great at first glance but as I dug deeper it became apparent that It most definitely needs work.
We all love those washers! Truth be told very creative just not sure how reliable they may be. But I do have some questions; I might know the answer to but I would like an opinion on what route to use.
First:
Once I hand torque the bolts that connect the trigger guard to the rifle I notice that without much torque I am pinching the bolt release to the stock and it will stay stuck. Would you say that pillars and bedding would fix that?
Second, I have read this entire thread twice and if I missed it I apologize but there is a lot of filler mixed with a ton of content,
Has anyone had trouble with their magazine lock not engaging? It seems as the slot on the front face of the mags are either to low to catch or too small to allow engagement.
So I have joined the crowd I love the look of the rifle and I am very happy with my first bolt action. If anyone can comment on my two issues that would be very helpful. I apologize if I have high jacked this thread I can most certainly create a new one. If that is the case please let me know.
Thank you
V

V, the NS-522 has been around in the US since the mid 1990s, and the magazine has long been seen as a weak point in the design. Some of my mags don't latch very well (i.e., I have to push up on them from the bottom to get them to feed sometimes), and sometimes just closing the bolt will "push" the front of the mag down to the point that the bolt passes over the mag without picking up the topmost round. People have been known to use a file to enlarge the cut in the magazine, but care must be exercised here because if you make the cut too large the magazine will drop partially out as described above. I generally shoot mine with the single shot mag adapter in place.

I think they will go back on sale today, actually right about now as they were the next prize in the 12 days of Christmas giveaway, and after each giveaway you have the chance of buying that prize at a sale price!! Might pick another up myself!!
Edit: I just checked and 5 lucky people just won an NS522, and yes they are back on sale till the 15th!

My "Polished Turd" NS522 Pillar bedded, free floated barrel and refinished stock. Now to sight it in and maybe some trigger work.

Yes after I puller bedded my rifle, no more binding. Also the barrel seems to be free floating now also.

Hey guys
Thanks for the info I will hold off on the pillar and bedding the rifle just cuz I am not too comfortable wih that yet. But I was actually thinking of going at the mags with a dremmel to open up the magazine latch catch. I will try and take some measurements first just to see where everything is lining up. If anyone in the GTA has done the pillar and bedding and might want to walk me through it. I hear beers are a form of payment.

I believe there are some pretty good links on this thread of video to do exactly what you want to do, you may have to go through a few pages but it will be worth the read since you own one, this thread from front to back is a wealth of info on this gun. cheers

Took mine all apart today and cleaned her. I put it back together and the bolt seems different......

Seems like its sloppy now and clicks twice now when closing the bolt.....It seems like the spring inside the bolt is binding?

You go to close the bolt and it clicks once when half way down....Then is very easy to close the rest of the way. When you pull the trigger the bolt de-cocks like it should...But it seems different that before i took it off?

Anyone have any idea what I did wrong???

I would take the barrel assembly out of the gun and see if you can get the mag to latch in. How far are you from Oakville? Bronte/QEW area.
