Norinco Pistols

As has been often repeated here, the 1911 copies are a great deal. They're fine the way they are, or if you really want to have it "tweaked" there is a lot that can be done.
The 77B is a fun little gun. I bought mine purely because of the price, and it's some fun to haul out at the fun shoots. The plastic parts do feel fragile, and (as mentioned above) it does have a different feel to it as a whole. But, for the price, it's a fun toy to play with.

If you're looking at a Norc 1911, try to get it from Armco. All of the necessary smoothing is done and Gunnar can do the sights before you get the gun, this means all you have to do is shoot. The trigger on my non-Armco is a clean 6 pound break with about 1/8 inch overtravel, the one from Gunnar is about 3 (he says 3 1/2) and very clean. You also get a one year warranty from a guy who is good to deal with and knows his stuff. Given that Norinco QC isn't exactly Bill Wilson QC you also guarantee yourself a pistol that has no mystery problems.

personally, i don't think i'd buy another rinco unless it was a value added job by armco- but he wasn't offering at the time or i just plain didn't know any better- as far as trigger jobs and sights go, even my colt out of the box needed those- or you can go up quite a few hundred and get an all factory bells and whistles job- and now i see that rinco is offering quite a few of the "enhancements" as well- ie you don't have to go wilson or whoever third party

I shot buddy's 77B. Great gun. He asked me to try to make wooden grips for him. I tried to make a colored laminated style grips to see IF it could be done. If I made another set, I'd use better wood and finish.

My NP29 has close to 2000 rounds through it now. Trigger pull was and is fine, without any work.
I would buy another one without hesitation.

I think those look pretty darn good, considering.

I picked up one used off the EE that was semi-customized. Shoots great. Yeah, I'd grab another one, too.

Thanks. I just wanted to see if grips could be made and I used OSB (which is not a great choice but I had lots around). I thinking a blond wood would look nice. The grips are pretty straight forward to make, but I spent most of the time with a dremel cutting away material for mechanical parts.

The NZ are very nice pistols, the only downside is that the sights aren't great. The price point between the NZ & the CZ is about $350-$699 new so you have to decide how much money you want to spend to improve a pistol before it becomes better to buy the CZ.
