Norinco T97 Left Handed Shooter

Now that the T97 has been classified non-restricted, I've been considering ordering one. However, due to the fact that I'm left handed, I'm a little hesitant. From the videos on Youtube, it appears that the brass ejects at a mostly forward angle but I am still a little worried about getting hot, high velocity brass in the face. In some older threads I remember seeing some users mention that they had moulds/were able to produce some brass deflectors to help us lefties out and I was just wondering if these would ever become a reality. Any input from guys able to produce would be awesome!

Even with a deflector the brass will be wizzing by your face but in reality i am not sure who can answer the question well since we dont have this rifle yet I have seen some bullpups have the brass eject forward of the shooter
 
I agree with you on that but there was some mention of guys at least having mock ups or at least the intention of trying to build a deflector for it. Even though the brass is still ejecting right by my cheek, having a thin piece of steel in the way is a lot more enticing than having nothing at all.
 
Unfortunately with bullpups designed the way they are, it seems you're not going to have a good time when hot brass hits you in the face every once in a while.

You'll have to stick to forward ejecting rifles like the FS2000 or RFB if you want a bullpup.
 
looking that the pics of the gun and having had my hands on that new shotgun that has the double tubes on the top (which ejects the same as the T97) i have been thinking on this myself.

im wondering if we cut open the other side to match the right side ejector port and then covered the right side ejector port?

i guess it matters more on where the ejector claw is located and how it works.

but ya, this is ticking me off as well.
both that shotgun and now this.
why they just couldnt have it eject out the bottom like any self respecting bullpup should is beyond me.

even my ARs i had to pick up a brass catcher to get around catching the odd hat brass sizzle across my cheek.

Seriously, I think he had a shell deflector design in mind that he thought would work well. Not sure how far he got with it.
 
i dont know for that specific type M97 but i used the FAMAS during my army time and even if we re able to choose LH or RH action i never anything in my face except powder residu when it was raining ...

just FYI.
 
Is this rifle good for bear defense? Does any know approximate "quad" value for this rifle. Its in another thread that rifles should be valued against quads, I am trying to be funny might be going over some peoples heads.

A non issue with the FAMAS if used correctly. But I did burn my cheek and neck (and lost some hearing points) while clearing buildings and not shouldering the rifle properly because of the plates. As a military rifle, nothing is wrong with left or right ejection: like the noise, you notice that only afterward. As a range gun, not so much.

Funny how I miss this ugly piece of plastic now that I can't own one.
 
The type 88 sniper has a deflector available for left hand use so I think a deflector for the 97 might be possible if not already done. I might be interested if a deflector comes available for them as I'm a lefty as well. Have to check into it.

I think the tavors' ejection port can be switched
