Norinco Type 97 FAQ (small update 01/04/09)

For Canadian polymer .50 cal mags, I found the rib on the back was too wide for the magwell. Since this issue was common with other mags, I dremelled the magwell rib opening just a hair wider and now everything fits nicely except the gen3 Pmags. Those are still too tight.

Any word on if they are releasing the improved version of the rifle, safety close to the trigger mechanism. Kinda like to be able to maintain positive control of my safety as I carry my weapon?

It would be nice, but after studying how everything fits together inside it appears to me that it may require another re-design, or some added complexity such as a connecting rod similar to that used for the trigger. I like the total simplicity of this gun which makes it reliable, and I would be concerned if this was sacrificed for convenience.

That being said, why couldn't they have made the mag release button just a little bit larger?
 
Very clear information. I can not find anyone that has been able to modify an AR scope mount to fit the 97.

There should be a fairly simple modification to permit this & sure would open up a pile of scopes with built in mounts.

IF the AR mount is smaller - then hopefully an add on aluminum plate could resolve the problem.

Any suggestions or comments would be useful. I am sure others are looking into this, I have a T-97 on order but until it arrives I am in the dark.

I drilled 2 precise holes on the metal part of the carry handle but only works on 3x and 2x Acogs (works best with the 2 hole scopes but doable with the one holed ones, with some jb weld).

Canam t97 never made it in. I waited for 6-7 years and finally asked for my deposit back two months ago. I believe I hold the record for longest wait for a presale, lol.

Btw, I bought one off ee for $550 .
