Just two observations:

No such word as Trademark in commie China or the shelves at Walmart will be bared.

No red blooded Devil Dog would ever use a commie name like Norinco. Something isn't jiving here.

Different chatted with him at the SHOT show just recently. He is posting some details on the American Backyard forum and hopefully will also put it up over here. Apparently he is shooting for a price below $1000. Since that is what an old Chicom sells for at the gun shows, that seems pretty darn reasonable if they are well made.
 
now, what if he was building on chicom platforms...... and using 6 american made parts..... completes what we all refer to as an m14s, and markets under the name "norinco-usa" ... could this be the path he has taken? There are other chinese firearms in the states that are only legal once it is proved that they are manufactured using 6 american made parts.... chinese AK's come to mind
any thought on this ?
 
Well if it convinces Norinco to put the 305's back into production, and Marstar manages to secure a part of that run to keep the supplies of those things coming to Canada I'm all for it ... :D

His plan does not include Chinese made parts at all. This will be a 100% American made product.

No doubt this guy wants to capitalize on Norincos reputation for making high end products, stellar community minded reputation and inovative marketing methods (ie smuggling in automatic rifles into the West Coast destined for the gangs in L.A.) in the U.S.

Names like Iwo Jima Arms or Gettysburg Arsenals would be to passe.

I was at the 2008 SHOT Show yesterday and today. I need to replace my shoes now. :D

First, I have no financial interest in any firearms related business. My purpose in life now is to see the M14 type rifle flourish as much as possible. :)

Jon Morgan is the owner of Norinco-USA. He's a retired Marine Corps Master Sergeant. He and his wife also own C. J. Weapons Accessories. The two companies are separate businesses. IMO, Mr. Morgan has some very ambitious plans. I hope he succeeds but he has a lot on his plate. I'm not here to defend him or condemn him. I'm reporting what I learned.

Mr. Morgan wants to offer the Norinco USA M14S for sale in the United States by late 2009 or 2010. The "S" in M14S stands for "semi-automatic." It will be 100 % American made. His goal is to be able to offer a complete rifle for less than one thousand US dollars. His reason for choosing Norinco USA as the brand name was based on name recognition.

The Norinco USA M14S plans are still very much in development. They have found a supplier for the springs and another supplier for the magazines. He's working on finding a barrel maker. He has been speaking with various machine shops to find companies that can make the different M14 parts. He said that as parts become available those in the USA will be able to buy them individually online as well. I did not ask him if he will export parts to Canada.

I spoke with Mr. Morgan about whether the receivers will be cast, billet machined or forged. He says he doesn't know yet. JMHO but to keep the costs down it would have to be a cast receiver.

Some more to add
He looked at buying the Norinco china tooling it is not the USGI tooling that was sold to Taiwan. He did not buy the Norinco tooling I believe he said it was “ held together with rubber bands and bailing twine”

In a related note the Chinese released there rip of his AR tool at shot this year.
