Norinco vs Dominion Arms

Remington only produces one model with the longer one piece mag tube. All the other models retain the traditional length 4rd tube.

I'd still be looking for an old 2 3/4" only Wingmaster. They can still be found for reasonable prices.

but lets say a Wingmaster Magnum who take 3" show up over the 2 3/4"... its a better idea right? (i don't know much about shotgun yet but a 3" can shot 2 3/4" so it should be better in my book)

?

No point in shooting 3" shells from a barrel under 18", not enough room to burn the powder.
You will find that a shorty is much more effective with reduced-recoil 2.75" shells, unless you like shooting fireballs.

hummmmm

I dont know how easy it is to remove a 870 barrel but if its not too much problem, and does not harm the shotgun too much.. i still have to option to put back on the long original barrel on it and turn the shorty into a regular lenght shotgun and shoot 3" or hunt etc..

if its a pain.. then screw the magnum

Not remotely difficult to swap barrels, <1minute.

2/75" wingmasters are a lot easier to find. They can shoot 3" shells from a 3" barrel, but they don't eject reliably due to the position of the ejector.
That can be changed for a magnum one by a smith, but they you have to refinish the gun. Not an issue if you were going to get it refinished anyway.

There's no real need for 3" shells in a defensive shotgun. 2 3/4" receivers can be converted over to 3" if you really want to by installing a 3" ejector. Old, abused 2 3/4" Wingmasters go for less than half of newer 3" ones in my area because everyone thinks they have to have 3" chamber. Is it more versatile? Sure, but you're paying for it.

thanks for the advice.. good to know!

also, there is a sever lack of shorty pron in this thread..
here is a Dominion Arms Grizzly with laminated 870 Express fore-end and stock (found random on google but ###y)

I got one last question about the owner of Remington 870 with a grizzly 12.5 barrel.. was is the exact overall length.. i dont want to know if its restricted or not, that is already pretty obvious but what is the exact overall length of the Rem 870 with a 12.5 barrel..

Tom E Gun , or anyone , what can you tell me about the short double coachgun in the pic . Sorry Doc for the hijack but i'd give my right nut for that coachgun with the short barrels and internal hammers . I have a Stoeger coachgun now but they don't make 'em with short barrels .

The exact length of a wood stocked 870 with a Dominion 12.5 barrel is 32 7/8 inches.

thank you very much for the info.. the few extra inch should not be too bad over a grizzly 8.5 in the shorty shotty world

EDIT: sorry to ask again but.. can i push you into giving me the total weight without ammo ? [is that beast hikable in long hike .. many days] ... guesstimate 6 pounds maybe ?

I believe the "super" makes the difference here, not the "express"...
Getting a little sick of failed Wingmaster deal and overpriced tag.. i begin to think to just buy a freakin' new gun from a store.

then i took a look at the 870 express on frontierfirearms.ca and it say:

Note: Parts from the Express Super Magnum and all other model 870 shotguns are NOT interchangeable.

Which mean ?

The non-express are more compatible with other gun part i can find ?
are you sure the express even take the dominion arms barrel ?

The aim is still having a reliable, smooth and ###y super short shotgun.. Getting a little less patient today, i could even get a grizzly with the right barrel and length already on it!

And I'm in the process of building me a shorty myself, not the exact same thing you are after but it allows me to understand what questions you might be asking yourself.

Personally I went with an Express 3" receiver from the EE, and I went a NEA 14" rather than a Chinese barrel because I plan on threading it for chokes eventually and I am pretty sure I remember my 870 guru (TacOrd) saying that he won't thread Chinese barrels cause they are too thin. NEA was (still is actually) a shot in the dark tho, barrel is not here and nobody I know of got their hands on the new "modified heavy profile" yet...
Might still be worth considering tho, and they should have 12.5" with the same new profile as my 14" available shortly. That's originally what I wanted but I couldn't pass the special they had a couple weeks ago.

Ad to that, if you put a CAA M4 type stock on your 870 with a 12.5 barrel, your exact length will be 29 1/2 inches OAL at the shortest form.

Cops loved to bug me about the length when I first got the shotgun but I ALWAYS keep a tape measure in my vehicle to put them in place.

I'm pretty sure it was cut to that length. In the US you can cut barrels to any length provided you do the required ATF paperwork and pay a $200 fee. They have categories called SBR (short barrelled rifle) and AOW (any other weapon).
The only double barrel shotgun, that short, that I have seen in Canada is the DA Outlaw.
