Norinco vs Ruger SR 1911?

Another Ruger owner/fan here. For $1000 the CanAm Ruger package is an excellent one, you will not beat it anywhere. I also own the Norc and it shoots just fine thank you very much, but I had to do a lot of work on it to get it that way. With the Ruger she was ready to rock out of the box {put a little blue loktite on the grip screws though, they'll come loose after a few mags of .45:)}

Edit: actually now that I remember, change the screws out altogether, they're sh1t from Ruger. Soft as a banana and I broke one of mine off flush with the bushing when it was relatively new. I swapped them out with Kimber screws and bushings and never looked back. The Ruger bushings are RED loctited into the frame and are a ba$tard to get out while still leaving threads in the frame.

Honestly, Norinco supporters - quality? Check out your kitchen drawer, if you have Ginsu knives then definitely get the Norinco. If you want a real gun then pay real gun money. It is embarassing to see all of this Norinco talk. Man up and support your neighbour, buy a real gun.

If Norinco does it for you I will assume that you brag about the accuracy of the TT-33.

Pathetic.

so with all this 1911 talk, what exactly is better about the Rugers? my Norinco is quite accurate...just curious haha

you have to have one in hand to see the differences.
the fit and finish is way better.
upgraded novak sites and stainless.
but its the fit and finish thats way better.

when you cycle the gun it dosnt feel like 2 anvils with sand between them sliding past each other.
it feels like 2 sticks of warm butter.
dont ask me what my kimber feels like.... its even better!

In a ~ 30 year love affair with the 1911 pistol I've easily owned > 100 different ones. Many Colts. Lots of USGI 1911A1's. Currently, still have a few. Even own a spankin' new Ruger SR1911, too. However, on Norinco's I must be an anomaly as I have owned some of them, too. And still have a few.

I usually like to change out the triggers & grips but usually leave everything else pretty much alone. Never had a lemon yet:

Last but not least, what I like to call my Norc-in-Stein:

While I have no illusions that it's a Colt, Kimber or Ruger SR1911, the Norc 1911A1 pistol is actually pretty good bang for the buck.

I agree. I find the new norc governemt models are finished very nice. Much nicer than the ones with the oversized ambi safety/ skeleton hammer/ front slide serrations.

Amen trebor. I will never buy a Ruger pistol again. I bought a new sr9 online and it was crap out the box. A persistent trigger reset issue that a trip to a qualified ruger dealer did not rectify. Sold it cheap and just to give ruger another chance bought another one from a cgner. This one too is a pos with fte issues. I have ordered a new extractor to see if that fixes the problem. If not this one too is out the window, but ruger will never see my money again.

I didn't hesitate to buy the Ruger SR1911 at all. I however, am not a fan of the Ruger P89, P90 or other [non .22lr] semi-auto pistols they also offer. I had a NIB P90 .45ACP circa 1990 that was a real POS. I traded it back to my local dealer where it came from for something useful.

The SR1911 is a different kettle of fish, though.

I like it!

really?
my first gun was a Ruger P-89 and i still have it to this day.
love that gun!

Norc's are ok if you can pick from a selection in a store. I wouldn't buy online. Yea I know, that won't ensure reliability but at least you avoid the overt stuff. Norc's have the components, and some are amazing really but ... the QC is not quite there yet.

I see the Norinco as a cheap way to get into learning about handguns, if I scratch or abuse it, it doesn't matter. Then once I learn to shoot a .45 acp, I can upgrade to a higher end domestic model, and sell the Norinco cheap, although I got mine that was Armco'd, so I might not need to sell it as it's tight and runs smooth.

The P90 I had was suitable for a paperweight at the range to keep the spare targets from blowing off the bench in the wind. That was about the extent of it's usefulness.

I should've known better though as by then I had been owning/shooting 1911's for around 10 years. Next to a 1911 the P90 in .45ACP was a POS.

So, given in the same time period I also owned/shot the CZ75 9mm I certainly wasn't going to buy a P89 9mm after the P90 fiasco...lol...

"Man up and support your neighbor" ... Cuz yeah, if Americans were given the choice, they wouldnt buy Chinese or Russian ... Oh wait! They totally would and thats one of the biggest and most common complaints you hear from American gun owners! My bad. Also, you know that ammo they are selling with these .45's was MADE for the american government/market lol. Finally, do you think for one second they would EVER pay more for Canadian products to "Support their neighbor"

That said, Norincos finish is usually garbage, look at the combo, its a 150 dollar gun, or a 650 dollar gun. Save money or buy quality, #### where its made or "Supporting" either of them, cuz neither would support us if given the option :D

Well I am with NAA on this one. I own three Norcs and had others. All have been excellent guns. Wilson Combat lists the Norinco as a gun they will do custom work on but they won't touch a Kimber. New sights and a trigger job are all my Norincos ever needed.

Support our southern neignbour of course as long as price and quality is there. Price and quality are not mutually inclusive.

Take Care

The choice comes down to whether you care more about the looks from the side, or the looks from the muzzle. Paper targets and bad folks don't care what the side of your firearm looks like, and that's reason enough for me.

My priority process for any firearm goes something like this:

1) Function
2) Reliability
3) Accuracy
4) Ergonomics
5) What other people on the firing line/CGN think of my gun's make or finish.

As you can tell, I'm a norc fan. Their price allows me to buy that many more firearms consistent with my expectations above.

Look at military firearms and long range shooters, majority of their gear doesn't exactly look pretty, it serves a purpose. I'm a shooter not a collector. To each their own.

A big +1 to what BCshooter said. We tend to get brainwashed by 'Merican patriotism. Do you really[i\] think they value our products above those of Mexico, or China for that matter? Half of them are oblivious they have a northern neighbour, because their stuff don't say hecho a Canada. In order for supportive relationships like this to weigh on my decision making, they have to be reciprocal. The softwood lumber dispute should give some insight to how America feels about Canadian products and 'free trade'.

Edit: Don't let my reply make you think I'm anti-American. I love the USA and have family there, but you have to be realistic about American products, and the fact that we have different economies. Compare our stock exchanges to see.
