Was going through some old slides and came across some of my old hunting pictures. This is from the mid 1950s, me on the horse.

And Noel, mine don't go back like your great pictures, but I am either in, or took, these "more recent" ones.
Northern BC, hard pressed to figure out which mountain, but's that's me. maybe 1960.

Same jacket and same hat! Nice to see the trapper nelson in the alpine.

Is that one or two caribou racks your packin on the horse? Great photgraphs nothing like slide film. No easy trick to get that much definition up high in the snow like that

We were goat hunting. That light grey jacket was one of the best i ever had for hunting. Pure wool, wet snow could build up on it all day, but at night I was still reasonably dry.
It may not be the exact same hat, as I had more than one of them. Jones Pioneer brand, called, "bone dry." Hard to get a more practical outdoor hat. Waterproof, but enough ventilation to keep you from overly sweating.

H4831 if you need a replacement for that jacket see if you can root up a swedish milsurp tunic. real tight melton wool.

Thanks for the pics keep em coming

I have one older vintage hunting picture that may be of interest. When we first moved to B.C. we lived in Barkerville for the first few months. This was just prior to it being made into or designated an historic site. ;)That being said, I'm one of the last surviving residents of Barkerville. A couple of note that lived there at that time was Mr. & Mrs. Joe & Betty Wendle and her forte, as shown in the photo, was hunting Grizzly, using a model 99 Savage in 22 Savage High Power. In their home I recall seeing at least four rug mounts hung in the stairwell to the upstairs.

This picture is of some of my 'vintage' Elk timber hunting package. I have a Moose draw for area 5 this year and what's in the following picture will be part of my secondary/back up on the hunt.

And, using some vintage ammo.

The primary firearm will be my recently acquired Husqvarna in 358NM

Time permitting, I'll work up some loads using 225gr Barnes TSX. Failing that, I'll use some of the Norma factory 250gr I've accumulated. It's not too shabby, on paper at least.

Old Joe musta watched himself pretty darn close!

I've mentioned it before but in '55 when we moved from Edmonton to B.C., we lived in Barkerville for the first five months and later moved to Wells. In Barkerville we lived about 100 yds from their home.

Here's one of my Dad while Deer hunting in Alberta, during the late '30's I believe.

Did you get a goat? If so lets see some pics.

Didn't get any goats on the moiuntain in the picture. Of the many goat trips I was on I seldom had a camera. On those tough hiking trips of a few days duaration, I thought of everything as weight to carry. And at that time, photography was not hgh on the priority list.
However, here is me with a bedraggled looking goat, after we had butchered the rear half. Mountains never show their steepness in pictures and this chute is actually fairly steep. The goat rolled down the mountain after being shot.
OK, so you can recognize me by the hat!

Here is one, not ancient, but lots of nostalgia pertaining to older times deer hunting camps.
I took the picture and that is my forkhorn in the foreground, selected from dozens of large bucks, for good meat. No better pasture for mule deer than the Chilcotin area of BC.
