Noticed on EE a flood of SKS last weeks.

I also noticed that between CGN and other Gun classified sites literally nothing has been selling in the last few months unless its an absolute firesale or 50% off retail

Noone is buying anything it seems

Same items I sold last year, wont even sell for 25% off last year's princes

I mean no one is even trying to low ball me either

Strange times
I’ve always taken this as a sign of tough times starting. People offload none essential items at discount price to have money for essentials.

Not necessarily.

There seems to be lots of work around medium sized and larger population areas, but in lesser populated areas, not so much.

It's very easy to say, "pick up and move to where the work is," but not always feasible. Especially if the individual was already working "basic" service jobs, and money was already tight.

I remember when the "oil sands" first started booming, and a flood of out of work people, especially the Maritimes, headed for northern Alberta.

Many hadn't done their homework and thought that anywhere Alberta was booming, big mistake.

There seems to be lots of part time work around, but if you're looking for a "full time" steady job?????????

I've got a carpenter, with his crew doing an interior renovation on my house right now. No trouble getting people with tickets or provincial TQs, but unqualified laborers are few and far between. Mostly because they're only hired for the immediate job, unless there are several pending jobs for the contractor.

I get notifications all the time looking for laborer's to do FIFO work. If someone wants to live remote, they better be financially prepared or do what it takes to find work. There is no good excuse to be on welfare if you're able bodied.

With Canadian gun owners under never ending attack and harassment by the federal government , it may just be a case of folks trying to unload guns at a somewhat decent price that they feel may be banned by the government in the not to distant future .

That's fine, if you don't have a family, but priorities change when kids are involved.

Lots of decent working folks I've come across over the past decade, no education, for all sorts of legitimate reasons, work at what they can get, until there are too many of them and work isn't available, or it just doesn't pay enough to pay rent and feed/support a family at the same time.

When you're single, it's reasonably easy to share rent with another or several others, and still have enough money to exist on a reasonably happy level.

It can be done with a family, but it's often beyond the abilities of many to do it successfully.

So, they live in tents, old battered campers, abandoned buildings, etc.

Sometimes, especially in today's society, where good folks are brought in from off shore to take up jobs people once shunned are now clambering for.

Jobs that paid reasonably well, such as till clerks at big box stores, are now mostly gone, and self check outs rule.

Even the self check outs are going to be obsolete, in the near future when you pick up an item, put it in the cart/basket and it's immediately deducted from a credit card or debit card. You will be required to bring your own carry bags of course or carry it in hand. There won't be any greeters, sales clerks, or even floor walkers. Filling shelves with products or produce will all be done with a machine, that only requires a bit of maintenance, much of which it will be able to do itself.

That would be on an individual basis.

It doesn't take very many folks selling off to make it look like a flood.

Much of Canada's population is aging, and getting closer to their end of days, where they want to use the firearms they have, and none of their offspring want them.

I've seen this before during several slumps as aging folks get ready for their last moments.

Often, it's widows or widowers selling off the firearms to clean up an estate.

When these swings occur, it's usually when the Liberals and antis introduce negative legislation.

They seem to have some sort of study or graph to indicate the patterns.

A dealer on here had 3 Russian sks’s listed in their used section yesterday for $599. Someone snatched them up over night but I thought that was a pretty good price for the condition considering the going rate is 800-1000 these days.

I was looking on gp last week and found probably a dozen mosins in the $550 range. The ones that the dealers still have in stock probably aren’t selling at $800+

Everything is worth what someone will pay for it. It does seem that the demand for surplus rifles has fallen off, maybe due to the fact that there is no more surplus ammo

Is it more than usual? Seems to me there's always a fair number of SKSs going up on the EE, but I haven't been paying close enough attention to notice if there's been any meaningful uptick recently.
Well....they are worth about $100. If you can get $500+.......sell it!
They are a crappy gun from a quality engineering standpoint. But Rathjen hates them so.......well..... I guess it shows just how stupid she is.

$100 gun? Yeah, an SKS is worth the same as a beat up single shot 22lr. Totally.

If the SKS didn't exist in Canada, and they started being imported today they'd easily sell for what they're priced at now and nobody would think twice. What else do you have for a semi auto centerfire under $1000? Hell there isn't much under $2000 these days - the Makasi and Carmel are both closing in on $2500. The ONLY reason people #### on the SKS is the history of how cheap they used to be.

And the accuracy and the awful trigger and the crude sights and....I mean I'd rather one than a cope junk 180 but dang.

But thats just me. They're a heck of a solid semi auto service rifle and thats why Rathjen hates them. Only real one left on the market IMO
